Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Watching a little of this second half last night at the gym. The slowness and amount of space offensive players had was absolutely shocking. It did not look like the same division of basketball as ISU/KU or KSU/UH.

I was not impressed with Freeman vs. ISU, but he is pretty solid and will be good. He's dog crap on defense, but some of that is being a Fr. big, and some of that just comes with playing at Iowa I guess. Sandfort is a complete dork, but he can certainly score and is at least willing to try to rebound. Perkins is a whiny B, but he's a decent all-around guy.

But the rest of that roster - woof. I heard a bit yesterday on Ken Miller's show w/ Wade Lookingbill. It was strange to hear that people around the program and their view on the potential of some of these guys. When I watch guys like Dembele and Harding, I see guys that are at best guys that are a couple of years from being rotation-worthy guys in the Big 12, if ever. Not that they are terrible or can't get there, I just don't see it right now.
Wade Lookingbill has no idea what a good basketball program looks like in 2023. Guy is living in the past and his comments always back it up.

I don't think Perkins would play at Iowa State at all. And it doesn't even have that much to do with his skills. I don't think mentally he would be able to play TJs system and TJ would never play a guy who barks and whines at refs so much. Dude is too soft, but thinks he's tough. For a Fran coached player he's not bad in that regard.
I think Fran's athletes merely model his behavior just as TJ models for his athletes.

One thing he had right was that he thought the Hawks had almost no chance at getting into the tourney. He thought they had to win like the next 5 including last night before he'd even entertain it. I don't remember the details, but he thought the stretch of 6 games or so starting with Michigan were easy and if they couldn't go on a run during this stretch, it isn't happening.

I'm still holding out hope Drake can earn a at large. I think if they lose 2 more 1 of which is the MVC tournament they could get an at large with 28-6 type record. Very thin margin though and still play @ Bradley, @UNI, and @indiana state.
That Indiana State coach is something special. He may get tempted leave in the not too distant future.

I think so too. I don't think Indiana would hire him yet but might be a really good hire. I agree with the others. If I'm an Indiana fan I want this year to be Woodson's last

Musselman wants out of Arkansas bad (because the shelf life on his schtick in 5 year max) and he just feels like a natural for that program since it looks like Ben Johnson might get another year at Minnesota.. Ole Miss has cash, Beard can build a program there if he stays.

While I don't disagree with you on Musselman's schtick, there are other rumors surrounding that program that make his departure even more likely if they are true. Supposedly there are a ton of issues between players on the team. Soap opera kind of stuff.

Listening to Murph and Andy and after the DPS statement discussion they brought up Iowa MBB game and I didn't realized they played yesterday. LoL

He's gone. The administration is a mess at Indiana State right now. The AD that hired him got fired by a lame duck president over the president's mistake. It's a bad situation.

Schertz was 337-69 at Lincoln Memorial (D2). Turns out that if you win 83% of your games at any level chances are good you're a pretty decent coach. His offensive mind is special. Everybody says we're only going to shoot 3s and layups, his team actually does. He actually runs the style the every Iowa fan says they want.

I'm pretty sure a good number of Iowa fans were unaware they played last night as well. This is a situation for Goetz for sure. Carver is going to be sparse on Friday night against OSU.

TBF, this describes 99.9% of all Boomer and Gen X Hok fans.

Fran has 4 NCAA wins in 14 years (won't get one this year).

TJ has 2 in 3 (this year not over yet, but at least one is pretty likely).
Prohm had 3 in 6 years.
Fred had 4 in 5.

9 wins vs 4 in the same amount of time is a huge gap...and I'd argue a LOT of ISU teams have underperformed in the tournament with only TJ's sweet 16 team outperforming expectations.

Fran's sole achievement is winning one B10 tournament in 14 years and ISU has four conference tournament titles in that time with the Big 12 being the radically tougher conference to win.

I'd have wanted Fran gone about 4-5 years in after it was clear he rebuilt but rebuilt to a permanently slightly below mediocre level.

Some really inexplicable losses though.

College basketball these days is the easiest thing in the world to rebuild if you are somewhat good. Not everyone will have the same success as TJ. However, you can build a pretty decent roster in one recruiting cycle now. Frank has a crap roster and still refuses to add any high level players in the portal.

It’s not that refuses, he just can’t.
