NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

I'd say it's a little bit of both. To a degree it's concerning you "waste" a first round pick on a guy that can't even see the field but part of the reason he isn't is due to the pieces and roster spots in front of him.

Karlaftis got a lot more snaps last year but really didn't do a whole lot. This year he's an integral piece of the defense and the line rotation. If Uzomah doesn't get on teh field next year then that was a massive waste of a pick.
Most people know not to judge DL picks until year three.

If it's an EDGE you better get production by year 2 at the latest. Interior guys? Year 3 is fair, but by year two you should at least be seeing the field with some consistency.

It may be entirely possible the Chiefs are working to bulk him up, looking for him to be more an an every down lineman, possibly even switching to or playing tackle. At 6'4 he probably has the ability to add some weight to the 255ish he was listed at for the draft.

I am going to hold off on judging Uzomah this year and probably most of next. He has proven players infront of him, and he was one of the youngest players in the draft. I think he just turned 22 this month. Lots of time to grow.

Karlaftis came on late in the season last year. 5.5 of his 6 sacks came in the last 7 games of the season. He's also young too as he doesn't turn 23 until April. If FAU can make the leap next year, that some young ends for the next several years.

Ooh boy the injuries are starting to pile up:
Mike Edwards, Trey Smith, Isiah Pacheco, Joe Thuney, Willie Gay and Derrick Nnadi didn't practice today.

This list doesn't include Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney either. They aren't important anymore though.

Two straight weeks of playing in brutal cold or very cold is going to take its toll.

Edwards is in concussion protocol. Gay has been dealing with a neck injury that he reaggravated during the game. Nnadi didn't play or practice last week with a tricep injury. Thuney we know about. Trey Smith and Pacheco are newer, but considering how tough the last couple of weeks have been, it may just be precautionary.

Looks like Pacheco was mostly held out for precautionary reasons. Reports are that he has a toe that is bothering him but not a concern about playing this weekend.
Smith was out sick. I would imagine with Gay they will be as careful as possible this week to try and get him ready for the game.
With Edwards it is really just a guessing game, everyone seems to be different when it comes to concussions.
I would expect Morris back at some point this week.
Sounds like Nnadi might be a longshot. He had surgery.
Haven't heard an update on Brian Cook for awhile but it sure would be nice to get him back.

Thuney and Gay and Edward’s seem to be the big question marks. Gay seems likely to play, Thuney won’t, and Edward’s is a concussion so who knows.

Have you heard anything new on Nadi? He’s not been discussed on KC sports radio all week, I figure that means he is back. Or that there is no chance and he’s done for year.

Gay was a limited participant so he will be playing on Sunday it will just be whether he can stay out there and not reinjure it.

Mike Florio has been pounding the drum that Andy Reid will retire if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl.

Yeah it’s weird. People were doing the same
Thing last year but people that cover the team that have said they have heard nothing about that

There's no way he retires with a prime Mahomes unless things just fall apart with him health/personal wise.

I dont' think he does either. I have a feeling he "rides the wave" as long as it lasts. Once it "breaks" he will likely hang it up.

He would be an awful fit in KC. I don't get it. WTF would they want a defensive coach who hasn't won much lately and players can't stand(especially if you aren't winning). Bill just needs to take his rings and go sit on a beach somewhere.
