Ames Lager

I mean it sounds like people have trouble finding Ames Lager anyway so does it matter? If I lived in Iowa I would be buying all different varieties just because that's what I'd do regardless. But that's just me. Let's just get paying the players under the athletic department so it all just goes into the same pot
My problem is, according the Blum, no one other than West O was interested in making an ISU/NIL beer. Then as soon as we do, Backpocket comes out with half a dozen ISU themed beers to compete with it, and ISU gave them the license to do it.

If they were so willing to make ISU beers why didnt they make a WeWill beer? They appear to have better distributing and production capacity for such thing.

Just feels like a bit of a back stab by both Backpocket and whoever gave the license.

I will purchase a Backpocket brew when they commit dollars to We Will.

Until then, I will buy a West O. Preferably Ames Lager.

Well I sent a message on FB asking if they do or will support We Will Foundation with this or any of their ISU beers.

Only response I received was, please send any questions to Email.

So I guess I will have to send an email to get their position on supporting the NIL instead of competing with it.

Please post response. I think we already know the answer.

Until then, West O for me.

I'm a big fan of WestO's Ames Lager. However, Backpocket has made Iowa State branded beer for years, so they are in a different category for me than the breweries that have just started to do so.

I guess I would like to know if they were given an opportunity to be the We Will brew and refused because they didn’t want to offend the Hawkeyes.

Why can't there be more than 1 NIIL beer? That seems to be the logical question. The only reason I drink Ames Lager is to support the collective. Its not bad but there are certainly beers I prefer more. I thought Legend was really good but apparently they don't make it anymore. Why couldn't something similar be brewed and be an NIL beer?

This annoys me so much with a lot of companies in this state. Anyone from eastern Iowa knows that some companies over there have no problem with allegiance to U of I only and never offering anything to Iowa State. However, it seems in central Iowa and even highly dominant Iowa State areas of the state, similar companies are so afraid to offend U of I fans. There's this "but, but what about the hawkeyes?" mentality that permeates certain industries. I like that West O wasn't scared - and they are reaping the benefits from it.

I assume West O is the exclusive brewery of We Will, so it'd be for them to make it. But I'm completely on board with a greater variety of beer that supports We Will.

As for Backpocket, partnering with the AD probably makes more business sense than partnering with We Will. Getting access to the official logos/fonts/etc has to be a huge help to grabbing customers, and 95% of customers probably don't know/care about the difference between them and Ames Lager.

From what I understand the West O people are die hard Cyclones and have plans to grow. Give me a brewery that fits in with the fanatic crowd and really cares about ISU, has plans to grow, and seems to produce really high quality beer. Not to mention in a couple years all these beers will probably be going to the same bucket when the AD is paying the players

Back pocket also does a lot of Hawkeye beers. I'm guessing they just view both as a good business decision and like you said probably a little easier to just partner directly with the AD. I am guessing they thought partnering with both ADs wouldn't alienate either side whereas choosing a collective to support would seem more one sided?

I like other beers more as well, but for the mean time I think Ames Lager will be the choice. I want to give more money to WeWIll and it is what it is. Im no millionaire but will do all I can to help the cause.
