Ames Lager

I still haven't had an Ames Lager and have given up actively looking long ago. I've been able to get all the other ISU beers in Cedar Falls and I'm sure I'll be able to get the new Back Pocket brew. Last time I asked for it, the beer guy thought the Trice Legacy was what I was looking for.

Don't give up. You asking may be what brings it to some stores.

However, if you make it to Ames, let me know and I'll make sure you get some. I always have a few cases in our basement fridge.

Oh ****, haven't seen the Forever True yet. New quest begins.

I didn't even know Backpocket had another one out until a 6 pack was waiting for me last night when I got home. My wife found Forever True at the Grimes Hy-Vee. It's a blonde ale, thought it was pretty good.

Yep, they have it at the Marshalltown Hy-Vee too. That's the only thing Hy-Vee has going for it.

I don't keep track of the Hawk beers because I don't really care but they definitely at least did a hazy for them. I don't remember the name

They don't have any officially licensed hawk beers, so if they "did a hazy for them", it was just a black & yellow Backpocket beer. Notice no tigerhawks on any of the cans.

As someone else mentioned, they've had Clonefest & Hawktoberfest for years, but only this year was the Clonefest licensed (hence the updated can with ugly Cy logo on it). No hawk logos on their 'hawk' beers, and none of that revenue goes to UofI.

the issue i have is the Ath dept doesnt need to generate revenue through creation of competing beers to Ames Lager

if they want to raise revenue they can do so by raising ticket prices, parking or (gasp) sell actual beer in their sporting venues!

I am confident that Ames Lager generates the most money of any of the WeWill partnerships and while i doubt he'll ever admit it, it has be frustrating for Blum that the Ath dept continues to undercut their effort by signing off on trademarks for competing beers when they themselves pushed back on WeWill/West O with their original design.

I've touched on this topic before but we need to stop viewing all the different beers as "competition" as they all go to good Iowa State causes whether that is the collective, athletic department, or Jack Trice foundation. None of those are trying to "compete" with each other we all have the same goal to support ISU Athletics. Nothing is stopping anyone from just donating directly to the causes either, you don't have to buy beer to do that. I also have said I don't make my beer purchases based off where the money goes either. I buy the ones I enjoy drinking and have the taste I prefer. This isn't like Miller Lite vs Bud Light beer wars.

I will also point out when it comes to athletic budgets ISU can always use a boost of revenue wherever we can find it from: NCAA Finances: Revenue & Expenses by School - USA TODAY

We are 39th on that list and other Big 12 schools (not counting Texas and OU who are on the way out and both are in the top 10) including the new schools with bigger revenues include Arizona at 31, ASU at 33, Kansas at 35, and Utah at 36. We at least are a lot closer to the top of the Big 12 than before as the gap is only about 13 Mil between Arizona and ISU but we are still 40 mil behind Iowa. Every dollar our athletic department can bring in matters and I don't see something like licensing beer with a local brewery is "competition" to the collective, people still can donate directly to both the athletics department and collective if they choose to. Both expanding their revenue sources even if it's in the same market is not a bad thing as in the end it still benefits Iowa State as a whole.

Does it seem odd that all the Ames Lager I buy has a package date of Oct’23? I would think with the demand I would be getting some more recently produced beer. It taste fine so no complaints but just something I have noticed.

Saturday will be a beautiful February afternoon . . . for a tailgate!

From 3pm to 6pm between the MBB and WBB games, I will have the trailer in the C4 lot (or closer if I can get it). Look for the Ames Lager flag.

Featuring:
Ames Lager, pop, coffee, water.
Brats, hot dogs, chips, Oreos.

No charge. Whatever you contribute will be given to the We Will Collective.IMG_6111.jpeg

Probably best thing we can do is continue to update each other as it’s looking like random pop ups

I tried both Ames Lager and the Cyclones Hazy IPA from Backpocket for the first time this week. The guy who checked me out at Dirty John's definitely gave me the side eye, lol. Love the design of both cans! I will buy both again.

I'm more of a traditional IPA fan and not as much into hazies, but it's hard to avoid them these days, and this was pretty decent for that style. The lager makes for a pretty good session beer.

Yeah- I’ve noticed that too. I bought a new sixer last week and it was still dated back to October. Anyone seeing later dates?
