Nick Saban retiring

I'm not saying they didn't have good years but they weren't dominant, that's the difference. NIL has completely leveled the playing field for certain teams.

I read an article a few minutes ago in the Athletic talking about Alabama, and as one reporter stated, "the Alabama NIL is second to none." How much did NIL help aTm the past couple of years, hell Tennessee paid 8 million to get their QB of the future and he played one game. All the bluebloods are going to have NIL money, it's not going to affect them at all.
I would say winning a national championship is dominant, they just did not do it year after year. The game is changing the only team that has a chance to do what Alabama did under Saban in the near future is Georgia, outside of them, no one else can.

I’d be really shocked if DeBoer isn’t the hire. With Ewers staying at Texas I think that’s the sign Sark is staying. And Lanning said he’s staying.

He’s won everywhere he’s coached. Hard to doubt him at this point. His resume will never be better. And he’s losing a ton of talent on offense at Washington. Time to capitalize on an elite job opportunity.

Can’t disagree with any of that but man that would suck to have to come in after Saban. Plus talk about a culture shift going from UW to bama

NIL will help some programs get talent in the door, but what the programs do with that talent is still on the coaching.

The idea that Demeco Ryans would leave Houston and what looks to be a really good franchise QB is one of the more humorous suggestions but maybe Ryans is into masochism.

Having a good QB on a rookie contract is one of the best ways to build a really good team. This might be Ryan's best window in his career to win a super bowl. If it doesn't work out the Bama job is more than likely open again in 5 years anyway.

I hate to rain on people's fun with the flight trackers, but most HC coaching interviews do not happen on campus. They are mostly done in meeting rooms at airport hotels around major airports like ATL, DFW, or ORD.

It is so funny you mention that. When the NCAA started allowing 11 Regular Season games for the 1970 season, Coach Bryant called his old friend John McKay and asked if he could meet Bryant at the Braniff Lounge for a meeting. So, Bryant flew to LAX, they met in the lounge over a drink, and Bryant asked McKay if USC would be willing to come play Alabama @ Legion Field in 1970 (The Sam Bam Cunningham Game). McKay said sure, if you will come to the Coliseum in 1971. Bryant said sure will. They shook hands, finished their drinks, McKay drove home, and Bryant flew back to Alabama. USC won the game @ Birmingham in 1970, and Alabama pulled the Upset @ the Coliseum in 1971.

That's very logical, but he also could also go home to Alabama, win a National Title, be a legend for the rest of his life and have his big pick of franchises in the NFL when he is done. Could work either way!

Saban is a rare breed. That dude has been able to juggle talent as well as the issues that come along with it. If you’ve ever seen any of the behind the scenes stuff on him his program was an absolute machine. Very few coaches can do what he has done.

I just don't see why many if any of the candidates being thrown around would want to go to Bama. Lanning, DeBoer, Kiffin, Sark all have established themselves in their programs, and in places that they can continue to thrive and that doesn't even include they don't have to follow a legend!

The only P5 coaches I could see would be Dabo or Norvell and that's just because no one knows what will happen in the ACC. I don't know if there's other hot coaching names in the ACC but that's where I would look if I'm Bama.

I think DeBoer would be a really good hire and would culturally be pretty in line with Saban's Bama.

The question I'd have though, can he recruit well enough to win in the SEC

DeBoer has absolutely zero experience south of the mason Dixon line. Is he really a cultural fit?

Bama isn't the job that everyone thinks it is. Yes, they have SEC money and a stupid crazy fan base but in the NIL world they are going to struggle. Saban was playing the NIL game before it wasn't an NCAA violation and he's retiring because the filed has been leveled.

I think Texas, Florida, and Georgia are better jobs in the SEC. It's probably a slightly better job than LSU or Texas A&M though.
