*** Official Iowa vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Thoughts from this game:

- We need to see us play someone with a defensive pulse - but it really looks to me like the coaches decided to completely flip their strategy on the style of play. It's our 3rd game in a row with a pace of 75+ possessions, and the only games like that we've had since the Memphis game in the first month of TJ's tenure. It appears that while in Orlando, they took the reins off and decided that this team is best equipped to push the pace and run. The faster pace applies to defense as well, where I think they are more focused on forcing the action quicker, either through a turnover or a quick shot.

- It's amazing we scored 90 with Milan's worst game and Tamin never having to take over. I loved the strategy of pounding it inside - and then Gilbert just dominates for a bit.

- Pav looks really good. His shot will come around, but I love his attacking mentality, he really pushes things on both ends and is very smooth.

- With his 3-3 night, Gilbert is up to 38% on 3s, exactly what he shot last year. He's been really good and if he keeps up being aggressive and pushing the ball, it'll be huge for this team

- As others have said, shout out to King and Big Rob for dominating the paint. Hopefully they can get Hasan back soon
Pav seems like the perfect guard to bring in when the energy just isn't there or when we're not sharp. Even going with an extra guard can make a big difference as some teams don't have that second or third best defender that can handle our third option that can get into the paint.

And IF he finds Mrs Tavernhok and settles down some day (god help us), they are going to name their son Kinnick.

If it's a girl, Hayden will be strongly considered.

Katelyn. Could be spelled this way. Maybe not. Who knows? But her name will be Caitlyn. Get ready for thousands of Cate-Linns invading elementary schools in 4-5 years.

Gotcha. That's weird it would block ESPNU then. If you don't have a cable provider.
Yeah, I could understand not letting me watch the game becuase I haven't paid for it technically but restricting someone from watching a replay when I already pay for ESPN+ seems like a stretch.

Tinsley might be one of the top 3 point guards ever in the Big12. Gilbert is nice player but no where near Tinsley.
Only said his handles are better than Tinsley's. JT finished at the bucket better, had better floor vision, was stronger, and rebounded better. I'm a big Tinsley fan and believe he's the best guard to ever suit up for ISU. Gilbert's dribbling is some of the best I've seen on any roster is all I'm saying. Good debate to have if we're comparing him to Tinsley.

Gilbert's more of a darter. Tinsley had a really unique way of getting to the basket in almost slow motion. His spin move into the defender is still something I really haven't seen a ton of since.

I wish there were more games up on YT from his era to watch it all.

Everyone see's things differently, but Tinsley was known throughout his basketball career for his handles. Tinsley made college & NBA men look foolish when guarding him cause of his handles.

Ok...I give up..u win. Gilbert's dribbling isn't worth mentioning.

I just…don’t know how anyone could say such a thing. Gilbert is a pounder imo. Standard handles for a P5 guy that has the ball quite a bit.
