That's Iowa in a nutshell over the last 5+ years. They'll hang around/beat good teams when they get off to a hot start with a flurry of threes in the first 5-10 minutes. Weathering those first two media timeouts, if Iowa is hitting shots, is essentially the playbook vs Iowa.

Yep I've said it for years now. If you don't dig yourself in a hole and survive the first 10 minutes Iowa will fold nine times out of ten. You have to give Fran credit though, that dude typically has his guys ready to go and they almost always start fast. Once the game goes off script it's his inability to adjust on the fly that kills them.

This is going to be a true test for Iowa. Going to see what kind of team they actually have.
Am guessing they lose by 10-27 points. I still wouldn't touch the +12 as I agree with the poster above who noted that Fran is kind of a notorious 'play the starters against the other teams scrubs in a blow out' and backdoor cover.

If/once they get a decent lead early, Iowa is absolutely willing to trade baskets the rest of the game. Defensive on-ball pressure vs Iowa's guards is what really slows down their offense.
I think the breakdown of the team is pretty accurate but can't see this one being competitive. A offense like Creightons will score at will. One of Frans weakness is adjusting his gameplan to the opponent. tonight for example I think it'd make sense to slow down the game a bit. I see Creighton getting close to the century mark but I'll say just under 96-78
Once teams figure out they can get to the lane about any time they want Iowa tends to look beyond average. I can't remember the last time Iowa guarded the ball very well.
They are generally well coached though but they're the definition of a house of cards.
Early season games are weird. Iowa usually feasts on teams early in the year because they have better roster continuity than most teams. Creighton returns a LOT from last year though, so that advantage is pretty much neutralized. The game being away from Carver, where Iowa seems to shoot very well, is also a bit of a concern. That being said, *if* Iowa can shoot it well and *if* Creighton doesn't, I can see the Hawks keeping it close.
I still think a backdoor cover on the +12 is a likely scenario, but it would not shock me to see them keep it within 10 most of the game either.
I have been impressed with Krikke in the brief moments I've watched so far. Granted the opponents have been poor, but he looks skilled offensively and has good footwork. Will be curious to see how he does against a better opponent tonight.
Even if you lose the bet it’s worth it. If I could just pay the money Im betting to guarantee an Iowa loss, Id be broke before Christmas every year and have a huge smile on my face
We always underestimate Iowa team. They are not great but they are decent. I expect close Creighton win.
I think it's some of the recent cyhawk games that makes you feel that way about Iowa early on. I wouldn't describe us same way though early season. Usually we start 0-2 in the early big ten games and have 1 or 2 awful games in the nonconference. Besides The real EIU last year we usually do exactly what we need to do vs the cupcakes. Usually early January to mid February is when we play what I'd categorize as the peak of thr season. Then in March when expectations rise it's a swift fall.
If Iowa keeps the game within 10 most of game tonight I think that's encouraging compared to my personal expectations
Really good offensive player but I'm worried about him defensively. He doesn't have a Murray to help him inside either. Rebounding and toughness with starting 5 has to be a primary concern for this team. I'd like to see us use freeman as the 5 and krikke at 4 spots I'm certain spots this year to offset some of that
Is a freshman Freeman really going to help in the toughness and rebounding departments come Big 10 season? I admit he is playing well thru 2 games...but again, they have only played teams that would struggle to crack the top 300 so far. I think Iowa just is what they are, no matter who Fran throws out there this year. Reggie Evans ain't walking thru those doors.
