I just don’t understand the defensive bias of the narrative in general. Why is overwhelming offense in the 2000s and early 2010s big 12 viewed as ‘those teams don’t play defense’ and laughed at. But this mostly hard to watch slog yesterday not ‘these teams don’t play offense’.

I am not talking about a national narrative. I am talking about locally. These local dipshits mocked and backhanded every offensive explosion of points as some sacrilegious act, but they refuse to call out the BS in Iowa City right now.

Is it the machismo of offense being viewed as finesse and defense being an effort to teabag your opponent?
Do you live under a rock?

It’s gonna be hilarious to watch Brian fall well short of his 25 per game quota (he needs to avg almost 30 pts per game over his last 5 or 6), Iowa ‘wins’ 10 games anyways, and KF basically tells everyone to **** off and ignores the contract stipulations.

All this sets up next year as KFs last year in coaching, and ends by heavily tarnishing his legacy.

Bill I think we watched a different game. Brock Huard couldn't of been more amazed at the discipline and physicality of the defenses. A very throwback type game. I do feel bad most the country missed the Oregon and Washington game. That looked like a good game albeit much different

WI's defense is not that good or physical.
They're pretty 'mid' about everywhere.

The Mike Tressel special of giving up the most rushing yards to an IA RB since Sedric Shaw was icing.

The 'race' for the B1G West is over. It will be Iowa.

TV executives must be absolutely salivating over the prospect of PSU/Michigan/tOSU v Iowa. That should have an enormous crowd until 1/2 way through the first quarter when it is 17-0.

Lol two teams who don’t believe in the forward pass are all the rage these days.
Hill is not a good thrower. Their WR's are weak. Their TE group is injury depleted. But they have a solid group of RB's. Feel like Brian Ferentz should lean into that.

Not saying they should go triple option. But why not go retro with an I/Wing-T blend:
  • FB/I Back
  • RB or WR as Wingback that can flex out on long yardage downs.

Yawn. Same story different year for the Hawks. Winning in spite of their offense. Not sure how anyone can truly enjoy watching games like that, win or lose.

It’s an interesting predicament for Iowa fans. On one hand you want to see some level of offensive production but on the other hand you know it will take losing Ferentz and his proven ability to win 8+ games per year.

Wisconsin looked inept but that's just me. Enjoy the gift that is the Big10 west because next year Iowa can't just fall face forward into 10 wins.
Espn FPI has Iowa's SOR at 10 felt that was high but it's surprising looking at how many teams have weak schedules.

A huge life long Iowa fan I work with doesn't even care if Iowa goes 11-1 and is in the B1G Championship game... he can't stand it anymore how unbearable it is to watch Iowa play every Saturday. In fact, he basically wants them to lose to force KF to change his ways offensively. He said it's just not enjoyable watching them play anymore.

He said that Iowa has never lit the world on fire offensively.... but they'd rank like in the 70's or something nationally in offense.... not dead last. Now they literally cannot even complete a pass. Deacon Hill was 6/14 for 37 yds passing... for an average of 2.6 yds per pass attempt. That's just beyond pathetic... it's inept.

Iowa has become a national joke offensively... and at least this Iowa fan friend of mine is sick of it. I don't know how many other Iowa fans feel this way though??

Someone explain to me why a defense doesn’t just run cover 0 with loading up the box all game long against Iowa? Putting a safety back is a waste.

The big 10 overall is a joke. There 80% of the conference is just plain bad at football. They are not lighting the basketball world on fire either.

I watched most of the game yesterday and Wisconsin is SLOW. Their d-line looked like they were playing in mud. Those were two absolutely garbage offenses.
You watched Iowa/Wisconsin over Washington/Oregon? I mean I did as well but I’m a huge Hawk fan. I don’t understand why any other fan bases would watch our game over the game of the year in CFB.

I feel it goes both ways.

There is equally a bias against teams like Iowa that lean on their defense. The goal is to win games: so no difference between winning 17-14 or 33-30.

Although most fans are more entertained by teams that rack up points.
