What Has Changed Since Ohio Loss?

I never heard one person saying he should be fired. I heard several people saying he's lost the program.

When people say the rot has set in and we are told it is time to move on from Campbell and that Campbell’s time has passed, are they not saying that Campbell should be fired?

They said it. There is a whole thread.

At the very least they're saying Jamie needs to start the coaching search. To me, it's clear that Iowa State has made strides since the coach Mac days. No one would be complaining about being 2-1 in conference or even losing a close road game to Ohio. That's who we were. I hope Jamie is smarter than our average fan (on those threads). I'm with the 2 guys named Chris - we need to stick with CMC, this is similar to Ferentz's 8th year. He's growing as a coach and we're not going to have more success with a different head coach anytime soon.

Admittedly I've been pretty down and vocal about Campbell. At times just disgusted how he's screwed the pooch starting with 2021 season and all that talent. I fuc*ing HATE losing to the fuc*eyes. OK that aside...
This team has changed for the better since Iowa and Ohio losses.
Have we finally seen a change in him allowing the offense to open up more?
Did the Hot Seat comments light a fire?
Have practices been more intense?
Did Pollard have a sit down with him?
Discuss.
Three terrible teams , UNI TCU and OSU.

Jamie is a busy man. Wasting his time. Campbell is our guy. Trust him. There is a reason he has been Conference Coach of the Year many times in his coaching career. Probably a statue of him when he retires.

Here comes an unpopular opinion but...we've played lesser teams?

I'm going to be honest here, there may be a sizeable talent discrepancy but it terms of the team and on-field competency I'm not so sure much of the Big 12 isn't on par with Ohio.

I'd also like to think our LBs and Oline and starting to make some headway. Those (and some kind of pressure from the DL) are the facets that can probably net the biggest impact and overall improvement going forward.

So you think TCU and Okie light are worse than Iowa and Ohio????? Pretty equivalent teams I'd say.

That Ohio loss sucked and should really never happen but they're pretty good and playing with something like norovirus is about as adverse of conditions as I can think of.

Like it's incredible that players like Noel were even able to suit up and go stand out in the sun for 4 hours.

They’ve had those before Ohio.
Yes, it was one of my gripes early in the season and part of the reason I saw our offensive line, especially the tight ends, were doing so poorly at the beginning. During the UNI and Iowa games, I especially noticed our tight ends looking at their wrists, trying to figure out what play was going on. More than a couple of times, our tight ends were still looking at their wrists when the play was snapped, then whiffed on a block.

Maybe they simplified it or maybe it just took time for to get a better grasp of what's going on, but the players seem to be ready now at the snap of the ball instead of reading their wrist.

Young players have gained experience and improved. Coaches figuring out what works with this roster. Officials also played a major role in the Ohio game.

I've never seen an official kick the football away from the center to allow the defense to run fresh players onto the field.

Watch #75
#75 has whiffed on blocks all year and really struggles on most plays. I was hoping that some relief was coming with Remsburg coming back, but it sounds like he is hurt (He seems to get hurt a lot). If we can get better play from our LT spot, look out!

There's another, more direct thread/poll asking if they want Campbell gone:

There was a mostly meaningless play in garbage time that dropped my jaw against TCU. It was a power run to the left with 2 pulling guards. Watching the video, the guards were 100% in sync. It was a thing of beauty that I haven't (ever?) seen Iowa State do. That single play has me super excited for the future of run blocking with Clanton as our coach. I'll see if I can post the video. It's something you see all the time from Iowa, OU, Bama, etc. but it clearly takes reps and good coaching to do it well.

Forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but why are the linemen "twirling" (i.e. turning their back to the line of scrimmage) seems like wasted motion and complicated footwork - for what purpose? They don't really "sell" pulling to the right before doubling back left and it appears that, at best, it gets the linebackers to pause/react, but not really "flow" opposite the play side. Don't mean this comment as a critique, I genuinely don't understand the intent.

Here are the Week 6 F+ rankings for our opponents. F+ is a combination of SP+ (based on play-by-play efficiency) and FEI (based on drive efficiency). All the calculations are adjusted for opponent. ISU is currently ranked 42 using this metric.

UNI, unranked FCS
Iowa - 38
Ohio - 67
Okie State - 45
Oklahoma - 4
TCU - 35
Cincy - 45
Baylor - 72
Kansas - 37
BYU - 49
Texas - 5
KSU - 22

The opponents have not gotten worse. The blocking schemes have obviously changed. You can see it on the film. The offense has opened up a bit. You can see it on the film. I think illness was probably worse than we know against Ohio. I think our team right now beats Iowa regardless of Macnemara's injury. Oklahoma was going to woodshed us no matter what, they are CFP caliber this year.

If we continue to improve, only Texas will be an automatic L, and being late November in Ames you never know. Just based on odds I think we'll win at least 2 of the remaining 6, possibly as many as 5, with 3 being most likely.

It's to get the LBs to hesitate. They don't have to flow, just be slowed down a half step. That half step improves angles for everyone. And it looks goofy, but doing a full 270 is more efficient than turning 90 deg one way then going 180 the other direction. Plus you get a better sell on the fake because you can't "short" spinning all the way around. If you don't square your body enough to the right before going left, the LBs won't bite as hard.

Suprised Neal is still starting, he's been bad the whole year. I can't believe there isn't anyone else to play LT who will at least put their hands on someone. I feel like he whiffs on the majority of run plays.
I thought Neal actually played much better against TCU. Sama's long run was in part do to his combination block and he had key blocks on a couple of Sanders' long runs. Early in the year he struggled, but he seems to be getting better. He is athletic for his size, I'm sure that is why the staff is trying to get him to grow into that spot.
