Admittedly I've been pretty down and vocal about Campbell. At times just disgusted how he's screwed the pooch starting with 2021 season and all that talent. I fuc*ing HATE losing to the fuc*eyes. OK that aside...
This team has changed for the better since Iowa and Ohio losses.
Have we finally seen a change in him allowing the offense to open up more?
Did the Hot Seat comments light a fire?
Have practices been more intense?
Did Pollard have a sit down with him?
Discuss.

I’ve been down on this team as well and I’ve noticed a few things that have changed in particular. One - the offense is using alignments I’ve not seen before. These have led to multiples being used out of the same set and they are working. Two - the number of missed tackles has gone up. not sure why, but lots of bad angles and arm tackle attempts. Three - the kickers have regressed. Field goals I’m not so down on, but kickoffs are short (plus side is the team had EXCELLENT coverage overall last night) and the punts have lost lots of distance. Four - this maybe isn’t a change, but the defense is very opportunistic. Still the usual Heacock bend don’t break model.

Overall I’m much more optimistic (but realistically so) than I was after Ohio. The team is growing and that’s a good thing.

I think mainly all the young players seeing action are learning quickly (particularly Becht) and the OL is getting better.

It’s a young team that lost some key starters plus a brand new offensive coaching staff. They’re learning and adapting and starting to get it right. Glad the staff and players didn’t throw in the towel like half our fan base seemed to

I think they switched up the OL and they've been better.

Otherwise it's a young team that's getting confidence.

The OU game was just one week ago so it's not like they've come a LONG ways since then but they're playing much more forward and have some potential wins ahead of them.

We stopped pretending we could establish the run and instead let Rocco sling the ball. Add to that, the youth is starting to settle in.
Not much, Campbell's teams develop and this board if full of dumbasses that overreact when a team has to deal with getting their upperclassmen being gutted by the gambling scandal and getting poisoned in Ohio.

A young team got more game time under their belt

Also the new Oline coach philosophies starting to take hold.

Making sure guys are not eating potato salad that sat out for a day

No mystery really

The changes to the OL personnel have had an immediate impact, particularly in the run game.
They've changed their blocking schemes a bit too. Not every play, but often enough to surprise the defense. You see linemen pulling and trapping now which we haven't done in forever. That gives better angles for the line to make successful blocks. It also reduces the RBs need to read blocks because the hole is defined. So it's a little "easier" to execute but less versatile. And for a young but talented team, reducing the mental load is probably more important.

When haven’t we looked better in conference play? Nothing changed this year.

We are playing a ton of players that had little or no meaningful playing time before this year.

  1. These players will show the most improvement over the year, as they gain experience. More noticeable than veterans show improvement.
  2. I am guessing they called a lot of vanilla and a lot of basic plays because of all the new players. You dont open everything up right away until you get players comfortable in game.
  3. CMC teams are notorious for starting season slow, I believe the above reasons just made this worse.
  4. They are probably changing a few things up as well to fit what they can do, and their players.
We are very young and inexperienced. People need get a little perspective. Sure there have been other problems with one position or the other, but if you look at the overall team, it is obvious why there have been growing pains. Its fine to be critical of some things but some people are way overboard on their criticism or calling for CMC job. That stuff is just stupid.
