*** Official Oklahoma State vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Was the win great.. no.. but some here have a stick so far up their butt they think the world is falling after two early losses... if you think we can get better than campbell here I hope you have the person lined up!

could of clinched the game.
Not watching the game, but I can imagine what happened here. A slide to keep the clock rolling vs going for the 1st down?

And we won the game anyway. Victory out of the jaws of defeat! LOL

This one won't endear me to the coaching, will it?

YOU ******* TELL EM BUBS

It was funny to hear the announcers trash our offensive line every other series.
“I don’t know what you expect the RB to do when you have to dodge or break a tackle 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage”

“Rocco is doing so well with pressure today and getting rid of the football quick because this offensive line isn’t stopping anyone”

Just some of the things said by the announcers during the game lol
Sounds like the OL playing about the same, terrible. Well, at this point we kind of know that now. You're right, Rocco put the team on his back despite the OLine. And we played around it.

Hopefully we get some of the young O Linemen in now, and perhaps a little boost when Remsburg gets back? We know what we have if we stand pat.

Happy with the win. Now the last two losses sting a bit more. Onward to the next… Beat OU!
If it helped the coaching staff throw the switch, so be it. We have to play like this, only better. No turning back to forcing the run game. Not with our Line.

We had nothing to lose in 2017. We'll see. I just want to see weekly improvement. Do that and we might have some more fun.

Well, Eric is calling him Brock on the post game so….
I heard that. And I think it was not a mistake in his part. It was intentional.

Now if the coaches don't overcoach him. Let him play to his instincts. He's got some Purdy in him.

No one wants to think about a little fan message board pressure might motivate the team to great heights. So ya basically I’m taking credit for this win.
Well??? Hold on there, sonny. :D

It's one way of looking at it, I guess.

Rocco is getting better every week. He made some amazing throws leaning into the hit. I thought pretty good mix of play calling. They stuck with the run to keep them honest and actually started getting some decent chunks in the 4th quarter with Sanders. He looked pretty good. The interception by Tampa looked like a professional corner. Looked effortless. Jaylen finally woke up and had probably his best game. Defense was shaky at times but we all knew Gundy was gonna come in guns blazing with the scheme to get this W. All in all great performance after what we have seen the first few games.

edit:
Rocco gave me some serious Brock Purdy vibes at times today. I think he has a better arm though. Lots of potential but we haven't seen elite competition yet.
Agree on Rocco. It's early, but if he continues this level of play, JJ Kohl is probably not long for Ames.

Rocco is our offense now. Pass first, let him ball. He did very well avoiding pressure and moving where he needed to go to make plays. Makes good reads, very accurate passer, decisive. That's our guy now. Run the offense through him and score points.
Lets just remember not to crucify him when he plays a better defense, has bad game, and they lose. Gonna have to take some bad w the good.
Just happy they let him have a chance. Had to happen.

Observations.
Run/pass was about 45/55. Compared to 60/40 the first 2 games. That mattered.

MUCH more downfield passing this game, less short outs. That mattered A LOT.

Combination of the above resulted in actually attacking all areas of the field and stressing the defense.

Rocco looks like he has a boatload of "IT factor", chutzpah, intangibles, confidence, leadership, balls, whatever you want to call it.

O line is ok pass blocking. But they look like keystone cops run blocking. Seriously, never seen so many whiffs, so many guys just falling down. WITAF is going on with that? Looked like someone tied their shoelaces together. Only 1(?) penalty though iirc.

That bunch formation, with 2 backs, 2 TE in close... then run. Woof. Its gotta go away. Defenses just crowd it and blow it up. Just take a knee instead. Less risk of injury and equally effective.

Noel had his best game as a Cyclone. I was bagging him a lot this year but he played well.

Daniel Jackson, where have you been l my life? So glad you are back from fighting the Go'auld and can catch footballs now.

Im not sure why Dean is on the field so much. Thats as diplomatic as i can be about it.

Defense got schemed a couple times. I will chalk that up to Gundy still having a derringer in his boot after all these years. Cant let anyone else steal his tricks tho.
This defense is great, but it is vulnerable to deep shots.

CMC still afraid to go for the jugular. Far too conservative last drive of first half, a TD there puts OSU away. Instead, fg and let them answer w a fg! That sequence kept them in the game. Same at end of game. I get the strategy- run clock, punt, trust defense. But man, dont be so afraid that you make it easy for the opponent to stop you and get the ball back so fast. First downs win games too...

Needed this win badly. Theres some pieces there. But they still seem to be underachieving. Will be very interesting to see what lessons the staff takes from this.

And if the O-line can figure out how to run block instead of just falling over.

ISU is going to have QB controversy next year. The situation where Rocco starts until JJ adjusts to the college game is not there imo. Gonna be tough to keep both guys after next season unless we're running them both out there.
