***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Morel needed a breather. He finally (kind of) got one, and I think we’re seeing the benefits of it. Now that he appears competent again, play him until he has back to back hitless games with a 60% strikeout rate, recognize he’s on his ******** again, bench him, play him a week later. Rinse, wash, repeat. You (management) don’t need to force him.

Annoyed Merryweather didn’t get a shot yesterday. You have a day off Thursday.
He's definitely our closer for the next 2 weeks or so but he'd gone 3 days straight. I'd like to see Little move into high leverage spots. Brown too when he's ready.

Back end of the pen 2024 could be pretty salty
Alzolay
Merryweather
Leiter
Little
Brown

Add Wesneski and Assad as long relief and look out. I know Assad is in our top five but he's as good as anyone in the game as a long/spot guy. He's basically an ace in the hole.

It's easy to forget he's only 23. Having him as basically your 13tb guy with the opportunity to DH whenever he's locked in is a huge bonus. By the all star break I think we may see Shaw up making Madrigal a super utility guy. Pretty solid bench. (Amaya, Madrigal. Morel. Tauchman and Mervis)

He was brought up to contribute not develop. If he really thinks this then he and Hoyer need to get on the same page and not waste roster spots on guys like Canario and PCA right now if Ross has no intention to put them in spots where they could contribute. He's been more than patient enough with waiting for Wisdom's bat to come around but he keeps putting him out there to keep striking out or hitting a meaningless solo homer every now and then.

Did you read it? It's pretty spot on regarding how you'd want to see him used.

Yoshi would be an absolute homerun.

I wonder if you could manage to land Yoshi, Belli, and then Shohei and give Shoehei a high incentives-based contract while having him hit in the 3 spot next year.

If you believe him. I hope so but I'm skeptical.
Yeah, you're on CF. All of Ross's moves are scrutinized even before he makes them. Point is you have to look at the entire clubhouse. He comes out and says. PCA is my guy from here forward breaks everything you've built. I think even PCA would want to show he's earned his playing time at this level.

Throw him in the deep end and your doing him a disservice. Set him up to excel at what he does well. That's the goal.

I'm setting my sights on Yoshi, Belli and a really good lefty reliever. More then that and they're blocking ready prospects. Budget would be about 70 mil/ yr. Which seems move then doable.

Agree. However, tonight would be a good night for a start - a bad RHP. We also have a couple guys struggling right now.

Im really hoping PCA has a good game. Earns some more PT and revives this team for the stretch run.
They appear to be running on fumes most of the time.
