2023 CyHawk

Iowa's offense certainly hasn't put up numbers that are significantly better than last year's offense, but at least they have a little hope of getting better as the year goes on. Cade certainly hasn't played great, but he seems to be a lot better than Spencer in almost every category and he isn't at 100% either. Cade has good pocket presence and moves around enough to get time to throw.
Just having a QB with a pulse and an arm will help a ton. Last year, with no run game, Iowa went from 1-dimensional to NO dimensional. The QB and TEs will give them a dimension again. The run game won't be good, but it will be good enough to win the B1G west.

Checked Sagarin predictor, and ISU would be right behind Wisky and ahead of the other 5. Iowa should cruise to 10 wins unless they crap the bed vs Minny or something dumb. Even bete noir Northwestern is a dumpster fire this year.

Hell, Clones would be 4th in the B1G East... meanwhile 9th in Big12, and we miss the 2 worst teams in the league this year (WV, UH).

I think wr's are improved too but have no results to base that off of. Watching Iowa wr routes makes me think they're mostly decoys. Whenever we have tried to actually have some sort of perimeter threat Anderson in particular has impressed. He made an impressive catch Saturday and had another great double move that should of been at very least a big play maybe a TD but was a terrible throw from Cade. May just need a ho-hum passing attack to beat some of teams you mentioned but if you want to beat teams like Penn State you have to be able to hit some big plays to wr's.

Think it's mostly a rebuilding year for Iowa State but they'll continue to get better as season progresses. Defense will be salty again. I love Sama and Brahmers potential and Higgins is solid. I think Rocco is going to be fine but Iowa's a tough matchup for him because he can't stretch our zone enough. Makes quick and mostly good decisions

I thought it was crazy when Dejean was following Brahmers on the field in the second half. It appears he might be one of our best WR options by a lot. Hopefully, Higgins will become a 1 WR, so teams have to pick which one to put their best CB on.

Well, Petras is supposed to be coaching the QBs....................
It was very Petras like for sure. Unlike Petras, I actually have hope that Cade will get better as the season goes as long as he can stay somewhat healthy. Cade doesn't give up on a play near as fast as Petras would and has way better pocket presence as well.

Another el asscico this past Saturday. Iowa gets the early lead and then did next to nothing the rest of the game. Iowa's OL has better pass protection this year, but their run blocking is still a major weakness. Cade also missed on a few passes that could have made the game less stressful at the end.

I still think Iowa goes 9-3, but anything from 7-5 to 11-1 is in play IMO. ISU, just not sure how many wins I see for them with that schedule so will say 5-7 at this point.
Tbh, Cade isn’t a good QB. Now I see why no one else wanted him.

Another predictably ugly game but looked like a Picasso compared to last year. It’s next to impossible to recover after that pick 6.

I was shocked they didn’t utilize Becht’s legs at all. Felt like that was a major misstep. I kept waiting for him to pull a read option keeper for a big gain and it never happened.

As mentioned on 2GNC:

Iowa has improved their offense from #131 last year all the way up to #126 this year. Iowa State has fallen from #113 to #124. Both teams give opposing DCs sleepless nights, I am sure.

It was a pretty ugly game all the way around with the exception of some good defensive plays by both sides. Didn't do the state of Iowa any favors in terms of perception of a national audience, offenses were pretty putrid aside from a few good plays and drives. ISU's opening drive was impressive. I'm still a little surprised and concerned about our DL's inability to get penetration, especially early.

Have no clue how he didn't keep it on the last play where the RB had zero chance there.

My opinion of both teams haven't changed after this game, which probably isnt a good thing for Iowa. Maybe Cade getting healthier will open more for them or with more experience in the system but I think a lot of their flaws are the same last year and no QB would fix them.

I don't want to write off Iowa State yet, but I still don't have an opinion on our offense after 2 games. UNI we didn't do anything in the 2nd half except try and run the clock, and Iowa has probably(?) the best defense we will face. But I was trying to talk about our team/offense at work with KState and Kansas fans (live in KC) and I could not describe our offense at all. It feels like I haven't watched a game yet, and we've played 2.

I do need/want to rewatch the game and see if knowing the result will change my opinions at all.

He missed a couple throws he’ll hit later in the year. A lot of rust with missing extensive practice time. The last sentence is the biggest improvement in the offense thus far along with the improved pass pro. Admittedly as a whole, it hasn’t been the leap I am looking for. I think it still may come.

It’s aggravating though how quick they are to go into a shell banking on the D to not screw it up. It mostly works but aggravating nonetheless.

Once they got that Pick 6, I said that they probably won't score again the rest of the game. I was almost right, though they did try a couple of deep shots that I was happy about. Cade overthrew Anderson and underthrew Vines. He had both WRs behind ISU's defense and couldn't connect on either.

I'd agree with everything but I was encouraged with defensive line. I thought they blew a lot of runs up and hurried Becht as much as they could who was getting ball out quickly
