2023 CyHawk

Let’s hope Heacock runs a lot of blitz packages Saturday. Let’s see Cale flattened a few times like Theo Day.
This needs happen. Stuff them at the line not allowing short passes and blitz. Cade be looking like drew tate out there.

Last year's total yards allowed nationally not accounting for schedule strength (ISU had top ten schedule strength and lots of these teams were outside top 30).

#2 Iowa
#3 Illinois
#4 Iowa State
#9 Minn
#11 Wisc
#17 Penn State
#53 Purdue

He could make an argument they play a lot of top defenses, but I'm not sure how anybody argues ISU's defense hasn't been solid.
Not to mention the offensive powers Iowa faced from the big ten west.

Don't they have multiple walk-on WRs that see playing time because they can't recruit WRs that are any good?
They're all shifty WRs but none of them have size. They're going to try and bait our safeties up on the run to take some deep shots. The good thing is that even in a 1v1 situation our CBs should be right there to make a play on the ball. Cade threw it into double coverage numerous times against USU and they dropped a few picks.

Other than that, they'll be running PA to hit their TE's on deep drags or they'll split out Lachey/All and hit them for a tunnel screen. It's going to be a very predictable offense, as it always is.

The unpredictable part is naturally that the balls gets close to the intended target, rather than 10 yards over his head

Looked at their roster. Those guys are super small.

We also have some safeties that will absolutely lay some wood as well. UI ran for 88 yards against USU, which i personally do not find impressive at all. If they cant run the PA doesnt work, and if they to throw, I like our secondary matchups. Again, I hate this game because the better team doesnt always win, and a part of me feels like that could happen again this year

Looks like everyone that faced Iowa's offense last year got a bump in defensive rankings.

Yeah, I hate to build up last year's team when everyone was disappointed in the end result, but if you account for the quality of offense we faced it's really staggering just how elite ISU's defense played. Most of the top ten is there in part because they faced hapless offenses.

Another el asscico this past Saturday. Iowa gets the early lead and then did next to nothing the rest of the game. Iowa's OL has better pass protection this year, but their run blocking is still a major weakness. Cade also missed on a few passes that could have made the game less stressful at the end.

I still think Iowa goes 9-3, but anything from 7-5 to 11-1 is in play IMO. ISU, just not sure how many wins I see for them with that schedule so will say 5-7 at this point.

As mentioned on 2GNC:

Iowa has improved their offense from #131 last year all the way up to #126 this year. Iowa State has fallen from #113 to #124. Both teams give opposing DCs sleepless nights, I am sure.

Iowa's offense certainly hasn't put up numbers that are significantly better than last year's offense, but at least they have a little hope of getting better as the year goes on. Cade certainly hasn't played great, but he seems to be a lot better than Spencer in almost every category and he isn't at 100% either. Cade has good pocket presence and moves around enough to get time to throw.
