Okay... I know I'm stupid, but doesn't Iowa only have to score 300 pts this season, not 325? 300 pts/ 12 games = 25 ppg, right? What am I missing? Does it also count a bowl game too? I thought it was regular season.
Yes counts the bowl game too. When you combine that they have to win seven wins as part of the stipulation, you need 325.

I give Iowa some credit w their defense and special teams. The real fraud in this era of that division is Minnesota. Lots of wins then look up if they really beat any ranked teams the past 5-6 years. They probably aren’t any better than Maryland.
Minnesota is the only team Iowa has beat in the last 5 years that finished the season ranked.

Until we learn not to:
● Shoot ourselves in the foot
● Be our own worse enemy
● Fumble inside our own 5 yard line
● Get multiple punts blocked in a game
● Have more turnovers than they have
...only then will I feel good about our.
chances to win this game.
.
...and yes, I know we won last year. Let's make it 2 in a row.

My fav excuse will always be that we play the game too early for their improvement to kick in , Ferentz teams improve each week. Then in 2001 it actually got moved to last game and they still lost to ISU.

Reality was more likely that Big Ten schedules are always loaded with easy wins. Same now as it was 20 years ago, such a soft middle and bottom. Weaker SOS deluding their fans into a sense of imaginary improvement. Same thing happened just last year actually, we were #9 SOS.
Fair, my fav excuse is that the weather delays hurt ISU more than they hurt Iowa.

Was that a thing?

******* up like fumbling and not finishing drives are what hurt ISU that year.

In 2021 ISU flinched in what was projected as a big moment (neither team was top ten material so it was kind of moot).

That’s stupid af if anybody actually said that. That never even occurred to me.

Not the actual game but Iowa’s AD calling every Big 12 program about the locker room theft when the criminal was an Iowa student is another high bar of crying.

This is such a lazy assessment. Up until 2019 we were a cobbled together mess with minimal depth on the two deeps and it took the staff a few weeks to pull the right strings. Up until last year we really couldn't match Iowa in the trenches but that has all changed. Iowa typically feasts on teams that can't run the football. Their back 7 are always and opportunistic group and they just wait for the mistake. Our offense is built to move the ball against Iowa. I'm sure one of our resident Tavern Turds will be more than willing to chime in but we win that game in 2019 if it wasn't for the weather delays. We absolutely had Iowa on their heels and those breaks gave them way too much time to go to the drawing board and scheme.

Not really a spiel but ok. That holding call WAS in fact ridiculous and was readily apparent on replay.
The delays did kill momentum for ISU at least once if not twice.

That was a weird game all around. One ISU kicked themselves for losing, but it wasn't embarrassing as you comrade insinuated.

I worry about us no

I felt like our 2019 team was way better than them, we dropped 3 int's turned it over in their red zone, had devastating special teams gaffs (not even talking about the punt return collision), and Iowa got away with favorable calls from the officials. Just a weird game all the way around. I almost think without the weather delays, we may have actually blown them out.

After rewatching both games, one thing I noticed where Iowa has an advantage, is the physicality of their defense compared to the physicality of our defense. They were putting the hurting on a lot of SDSU players. They hit better, stop people in the tracks and are able close in and make stops in space very well. Our d is not at that level at all, I'm worried about our linebackers. But the good news is we are not going up against a great offense.

I just feel like In the recent years ISU seems posed to win but something happens like weather delays, running into our own player, turnovers. Just mostly poking fun at our ability to be kicked in the nuts and the way someone seems to have a career game against us always.

I still think ISU wins though but also preparing for the heartbreak.

It isn’t based on serious analysis. Just like saying a walk on qb slides in and looks like a heisman contender for example.
This took all of three minutes.

Yeah...that's weird. Both teams were delayed and ISU just couldn't keep it together.

I can't really think of any "excuse" that I've personally used recently, there's not any I cling to.

These recent results do tend to lead to some sour grapes:
339 ISU yards to 173 Iowa yards (a win but still close)
313 ISU yards to 150 Iowa yards (loss)
Cancelled - possibly ISU's best team ever (probably a win taken away)
327 ISU yards to 201 Iowa yards (loss)

To only be 1-2 in that four year stretch, all three games close, with over a 500 yard advantage and dodging ISU's best team. I'm not saying that's an excuse, Iowa did some things ISU didn't, but it's hard to swallow. Especially the conveniently cancelled 2020 game.

As much as I rage against officiating (our Baylor travesty last year still makes me mad), I actually don't think any of our losses to Iowa have been an officiating thing to any significant degree.

At some point people need to realize the yards advantage doesn't mean a lot. Iowa will let a team get down field and tighten up inside the 30.

ISU may hold to low yards but still screwed it up elsewhere.

So instead of saying that you were wrong and that someone did actually use the weather delays as an excuse, you give a list of sour grapes instead of execuses?

No I had never seen anybody use weather as an excuse and agreed with you if someone does that they are stupid af.

I then listed out the yardage #s and 2020 cancellation why this series has been so brutal for ISU fans. That’s not making up an excuse. ISU coughed up the ball in those two games and it wasn’t either team’s fault 2020 got cancelled.

Last season was our best yards per play avg for a season I believe, ever. Could be wrong but I thought ai heard Blum say that in a pod. Doesn’t have to be Iowa specific.

Let me remind you what you actually said, see bolded above. Maybe I misinterpreted "that's stupid as if anybody actually said that."
