Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

For those who “feel bad” for Oregon State and Washington State in all of this, I ask…why??

Show me anyone…just one person…who is affiliated with either of those schools who was wringing their hands for us during all of this realignment stuff. I’m talking all the way back to when we were going to be relegated to the Big East over a decade ago.

I saw many fans from all schools feel bad. But even if not, we can be bigger "men". This mentality reminds me of mafia or gangs getting revenge. It never ends. Personally I want to live in an empathetic world, not one full of anger and revenge.

I remember thinking of the decimation of my alma mater and how it would affect so many in that town and surrounding communities. The greed of athletics is ruining the lives of so many.

What is a PAC and ACC alliance? What does it possibly solve? How can it make any more money?

Does the ACC have a pro-rata increase for adding P5 schools?

It may be a last ditch hail mary for the PAC teams to at least get ACC $, while somehow tempering FSU/Clemson wandering eyes?

Empathy, my man. We are Oregon State and Washington State. We’re just fortunate enough to be in the Midwest instead of the west coast.

The money grab and realignment stuff is complete ********. This isn’t what college athletics are supposed to be. I’m glad we came out on top but I’m not gonna **** on the decent schools that have been relegated to a lesser tier.

Appreciating an opponent after win is alright. Especially when they were drug into it by the bigger guys. A couple bounces in the other direction and we’d be looking forward to some MACtion.

According to this we are significantly more valuable/wanted in realignment than OSU and Wazzu. They are way at the bottom we are above half.

While this seems optimistic in our case. Looking at the overall list it does at least make sense. Many of our numbers are quite a bit better than most of the PAC schools.

Now, a few things. Back a dozen years ago, things did not look near as positive.

And part of the issue with a list like this is their has to be someone looking and interested in a school like ISU.
We dont bring enough value for the B1G and with Iowa already there, it cuts our market in half for that conference.

The PAC we might add value, same with the ACC but the Big 12 is currently positioned better and ahead of them, so it would be a drop down, and regionality is better here.

The SEC is similar to the B1G but in their case if they someday wanted to move out of the South/Southeast, ISU would at least be a new market for them.

Currently we are in the best place for us, but we are significantly ahead of OSU/WSU. And we are currently in the best spot for us. Really unless the B1G or SEC make a huge change, or they all fall and bump there heads, ISU looks to be in the B12 for a long time, very possibly in the 3rd conference of a Power 3.

If PAC schools join the ACC, I can’t see it being an opportunity for the ACC to renegotiate their deal. If that were the case, they would have expanded long ago. Nothing else will temper wandering eyes.

Just leave the ACC alone. Nothing at all is happening with it for at least 8 years, not matter how much big mad noise FSU or anyone else want to make. It’s just noise.

ACC not worth much after UNC UVA FSU Clemson take off. Louisville makes $146 mil rev and VT makes $113 mil. Those are the only 2 schools with more than ISU's $111 mil. Crazy to see how close the teams are in this list. Those 3 AAC schools have to feel like they won the lottery joining B12 when they did.

Also, I love that ISU is top 40 rev.

I wonder if the networks get involved. 17m is cheaper than 31m. Could be a money saver to push for a move of schools to ACC vs Big 12. Everything is still fluid.

Couple things that helps the Big12

Being almost double the money, it would be awful hard to convince someone to take the lesser deal.

Being smack in the middle of the country, right between those 2 conferences helps the Big12. The travel costs and time would double. And they would be flying over a conference that is in much better position, and being paid much more.

Finally, they would be going to a conference where the highest value teams have been outspoken on their desire to leave as soon as possible. Meaning whenever those schools get it done, anyone going to the ACC will be right back in the same situation.

That would be like Iowa State having an invite to the B10, but deciding to go to the ACC instead.

I would think there are smarter people making these decisions than that.

Super silly to hope for that as Stanford/Washington have far superior academics, markets, and brands. So if that’s what they are counting on, well good luck. I’m sure ASU is a decent school but they are known more for there super easy online programs and being a party school.

I thought there was something about their GOR that restricted expansion. Something about bringing teams in may open it up for teams to leave. I can't remember and I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that somewhere at some point.

Hyperbole statement to keep the league heavys engaged. They've already made a major change with post season distributions. Right now, I think they're making smart statements well in advance of having to make foolish ones under pressure.

I think most fans aren't on twitter, I try not to judge an entire fan base based on the few select freaks who live on the Internet (a few of us in this thread included lol, love you guys ). They are obviously going to be much more invested and savage about their teams survival on twitter.
I think for the most part ISU twitter population is nice but if you look at us from a pac 12 teams perspective they might only see a couple accounts who might look like mean trolls dunking on the death of their conference.
Certainly there are many from pac12 twitter who deserve the karma from all of this but in thr end we'd be in the same situation Oregon State and Washington State is in, in fact we were a couple years ago. So that makes me sad, sad that this sport is dying and teams are getting left behind so a few at the top can get a couple extra million a year.
In ten years there will be another cull to consolidate teams and the money and ISU might be on that list.

Will there be an examination of where college athletics are and an attempt to put the toothpaste back in the tube? Will the power conferences keep their non-profit status? I don’t see this going down without consequences from representatives of states that suddenly will need to subsidize teams.

Washington State’s administration had a press conference about financials a few weeks ago and the outlook was dire.
I really feel for them. It’s going to impact other sports, the city of Pullman, you name it.

I really don’t understand why people keep bringing up the ACC. If their grant of rights was breakable it would have been challenged by now. Get whatever good PAC schools you can, ride out the next decade, and THEN let’s talk ACC.

If they move, ACC schools will be going to the big 2 conferences, anyway. We're not on their radar for realignment.

A couple quotes from there.

Are they really third? I’ve looked and found 3 different sources that say 3 different things. One has the ACC at $17M/team, one had $23.3M/team, and one had $35-38M/ team. But it was stated they were 3rd in revenue without question by the author and commissioner in the article.

As one AD suggested, expansion could be valuable to the league simply as a means of preventing the Big 12 from growing further.
Phillips acknowledged that reality at the league's kickoff event this week.

"You have to understand what's going on across the country," Phillips told ESPN. "Maybe you preempt [another league's expansion], maybe you don't, maybe there's a first thing that has to happen before you make a move. There's a variety of ways you attack this."

It definitely looks like the ACC might make moves just to prevent the B12 from solidifying itself as a 3rd P3. That’s the first time I’ve ever heard a conference official admit that publicly.

Ultimately, I don’t think the ACC is a threat to our expansion, but something to keep an eye on. A.) they actively had a mutiny during meeting a couple months ago with 7 teams meeting to explore how to break the GOR B.) I’m not 100% sure they are actually 3rd in revenue per team C.) there aren’t any expansion candidates, except for OU and UW, that I think the ACC schools would vote to bring on D.) the GOR through 2036 is prohibitive C.) geography works against them and west coast schools
