Left nut is extreme, couple or fingers or toes for sure. Those are the top two choices by a long shot
The presidents really don’t want further expansion and they call the shots.

I buy it. Not that MhVer is correct, but it actually makes sense. The B1G could have had O and UW any time they wanted, and they can get them if they want in the future. Clearly the money is not there to make that happen. At the end of the day it's going to be tv that drives this, and if they want UW and O in the Big XII or B1G it will happen and tv will pay to make it happen.
Each of their additions served a purpose, it's just none were really long-term gets. No one could have seen Nebraska being so mad at Texas that they methodically sabotaged their own program over 15 years. Sure, Rutgers and MD were great for revenue the B10 Network could generate, but that gravy train won't run forever. Then again, they all do fit well with other schools like MN, IN and IL who all do very little with quite a lot.
You and I have been pounding this since last summer.
Penn St to Big Ten is possibly the best realignment move of all time.
I think USC is going to end up being a huge get and the positives will far outweigh the negatives.
Nebraska is a shredding water type of addition.
Maryland not great but not horrible, makes more sense down the road if they add UNC/UVA.
Rutgers is dead weight with no reason for membership if they had a do-over with today's reality. I don't think Rutgers is ever going to be a premier athletic dept and some others in the Northeast could be. Given that Rutgers never actually "brought" NYC, UConn would be more valuable now.
UCLA is dead weight in football if you have USC. Could be nice basketball cache. I think UCLA football is really going to struggle even more after the move.
If you're Oregon and Washington, you get on the lifeboat you can swim to, instead of treading water until one with cushioned seats floats by.
The other thing is, they have no rush. They are Heff in the Playboy mansion. Whenever B1G says "you, get over here" - you get over there. So they have no need to do anything on any timetable but their own.
I could see B1G waiting a few years to get even better choice ACC teams (and another swing at ND), and Stanford, UW, et al would be part of the calculus then.
Out of all those Nebraska is the only one that presidents and fans really would like to see gone. The presidents were sold that they would hold up the west division in football and that would make up for their sub par academics. Rutgers is exactly what Rutgers was so no one is too displeased and it’s nice having easy wins.
Well if ND comes on board they could name their partner and they would be taken automatically.
The Rutgers add did exactly what it intended to do. Jam a bunch of grandpas watching the history channel with a BTN carriage fee by adding a member at a dramatically reduced share for years, and bank enough cash before the model flips and having an actual team that people watch starts to matter more. Even if that model has flipped, the Big 10 banked so much cash on jamming the New Yorkers that don't give two ***** about college football, let alone Rutgers, that they'll be in the black on the Rutgers add long after all the decision makers on that are retired.
Here's all we need to know about the Big 12 "getting into markets." It means nothing to the Big 12. Their media value comes from two things - ad value and willingness of people to pay for subscription services. If the University of Idaho Vandals got 2 million viewers a game, they are more valuable to the Big 12 than someone like Arizona State getting 800k a game.
The Big 10 is the one league that could and can still cash in on "getting into a market." Yet they are leaving big markets untouched where they could snap their fingers and get into them. That's all you need to know about the importance of getting into markets for any league, let alone the Big 12 that can't directly monetize it.

How is that ND scheduling alliance looking when it's Boston College and Wake Forest highlighting it?
Does ND go back to true independence? I've never exactly understood their aversion to the Big Ten, it seems spite driven at this point.
With no other options I could see that finally getting them in Big Ten maybe with a deal that USC is their protected rival.
Rutgers/Maryland made sense for this super tiny window. Eventually they are dead weight taking an equal piece of pie but it doesn't matter because they have the critical mass to squash everybody.
Some day real viewership will matter to the Big Ten too...but the thing is Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St, Wisc etc have the real viewership to overcome Rutgers and Maryland. They're set either way now.
I believe it because I choose to believe it. Also, this does actually make sense.
IMO the only way ND joins any conference is if they lose their path to the CFP, which isn't likely. Lots of historical beef with the Big 10 going back many decades.
While I know you have said this before, having those teams like Rutgers to fluff the schedule helps keep that other viewership high by keeping teams ranked.
