Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

If money & visibility didn't matter I would agree, but obviously it does.

Look at the NFL, they haven't been stagnate and only play Sunday afternoons. They added over the last 50+ years:
  1. Thanksgiving Thursday Football
  2. Monday Night Football
  3. Saturday Football in December
  4. Sunday Night Football
  5. Thursday Night Football
  6. Black Friday Football
Sure Thursday or Friday night games are a challenge for fans in the stands who travel a few hours. But as a TV viewer, I would rather watch college football on Thursday night than NFL. And Friday night football seems a natural for the end-of-workweek bar crowd.

I can't believe the NFL is still popular subjecting a captive audience to the Lions every Thanksgiving for all eternity.

When I was younger I really loved the Christmas day NBA games, not as into it past 10 years or so for some reason even though still an NBA fan.

Being the money grubbing wh0re the NFL is, they will soon expand to a 50 week season.

Yet another terrible thing in modern college sports. All about TV, with little care at all for the actual in-person experience. And we wonder why attendance is in decline everywhere. College football is supposed to be played on Saturdays, ideally at a reasonable and consistent time during the day. Now, I know this type of thing is necessary for the B12 to remain “financially competitive” going forward, but it doesn’t make it right. Not all change is good. There are many, many changes that have happened in college athletics in recent times that are awful, and this is one of them.

Thursday/Friday games aren't remotely new to the Big 12.

Idk… weekday games are night games with a national audience. Jack Trice rocks at night. I imagine the tailgate lots are packed all afternoon with people taking half days or full days off from work. Embrace the positives.

And that's better than having it on a Saturday?

why does it remotely matter WHEN you experience something. Is football more enjoyable only when seen in certain windows of time? It’s not like they are being relegated to playing at 3 am at a high school football stadium.

Also, it is better because the networks need the inventory and are paying for it.

I agree. The only thing that could hurt a Thursday night game for us is rain or weather. Our fans will do it once a year. It’s probably just one game. Va Tech is always playing on Thursday night mr we have a similar fan base. They pack that stadium every game. We do have to be winning though. If we put a turd on the field , nobody will want to see that.

A cold night in November or December could also drive attendance down. Hopefully it’s a September or October game if it’s a home game.

The Big 12 would still take CO/AZ. Just because message board posters are getting annoyed doesn't mean they would do anything rash. The presidents of those universities still have a fiduciary duty and that includes finding out the Pac numbers before doing anything.
GK and WSU/OSU know this too and so they are good letting this drag on but at some point this all has to unravel. Comet he 2024-25 season, the Pac isn't getting paid as it currently stands.

Totally agree!

Friday nights are for high school football, Saturdays for college, and Sunday for the pros.

I feel for high school kids that play football, but now can't go watch ISU play, or even see them on TV because they are playing on Friday night. So stupid.

A weekday night other than Friday isn't as bad, but still makes it impossible for some season ticket holders to attend. So you won't see a full stadium most likely on weekday nights.

And don't get me started on playing games in Mexico, or something completely idiotic like that. It's like the goal is to destroy the game completely.
You are talking at most one game a year on Friday night. HS kids will be fine.

Emptier stadium stinks though. That would apply for all weeknight games

You think a prime time Friday night game is worse than 11:00 on a Saturday? You realize it’s not every game every week that’s weeknight, right?
Agree with you. Plus I would rather have a Friday night game on ESPN or ESPN2 than I would a Saturday ESPN Now game.

Hopefully more road games than home games though
