If money & visibility didn't matter I would agree, but obviously it does.
Look at the NFL, they haven't been stagnate and only play Sunday afternoons. They added over the last 50+ years:
Sure Thursday or Friday night games are a challenge for fans in the stands who travel a few hours. But as a TV viewer, I would rather watch college football on Thursday night than NFL. And Friday night football seems a natural for the end-of-workweek bar crowd.

I can't believe the NFL is still popular subjecting a captive audience to the Lions every Thanksgiving for all eternity.
When I was younger I really loved the Christmas day NBA games, not as into it past 10 years or so for some reason even though still an NBA fan.
