Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

This could also be, but I'm more so looking at it that if on a continuum, teams leaving the Pac is probably less likely than it was yesterday.
Not sure about that.

The steering committee on the Pac12 media deal includes the Washington President. She has no incentive to push a deal. Slow play a deal and hope some schools get nervous and jump to Big12. Or in another 30-45 days the Big10 might get clarity on adding ORWA.

Also if the Pac was confident about sticking together, IMO they would add SDSU and SMU to get back up to 12 teams.

The 4 corner Presidents have been consistent in saying they are willing to wait to see a deal, but I wonder if those statements envisioned not having a deal until late July.

Just pointing out that it's been exactly a year since Wilner's initial tweet got this thread started. In some ways it seems like it's been a lot longer than that!

Either way, I do not envy the position the Pac 12 is in. Even when the Big 12 was in its most worrisome position, and even with what we felt was less-than-ideal leadership at the time, I still never felt as hopeless then as I think I would if I was a Pac 12 fan (especially a fan of the likes of WSU or OSU).

I think this was largely already known/assumed. If it allows for more time slots so there is less overlap of conference games, it’s great.
I'd much rather watch games that impact ISU weeknights than MAC or Sun Belt games. It'd probably help the Big 12's visibility not having as many games going up against the SEC and Big Ten, and it takes away other potential linear time slots from the PAC. Sign me up.

Yet another terrible thing in modern college sports. All about TV, with little care at all for the actual in-person experience. And we wonder why attendance is in decline everywhere. College football is supposed to be played on Saturdays, ideally at a reasonable and consistent time during the day. Now, I know this type of thing is necessary for the B12 to remain “financially competitive” going forward, but it doesn’t make it right. Not all change is good. There are many, many changes that have happened in college athletics in recent times that are awful, and this is one of them.

Totally agree!

Friday nights are for high school football, Saturdays for college, and Sunday for the pros.

I feel for high school kids that play football, but now can't go watch ISU play, or even see them on TV because they are playing on Friday night. So stupid.

A weekday night other than Friday isn't as bad, but still makes it impossible for some season ticket holders to attend. So you won't see a full stadium most likely on weekday nights.

And don't get me started on playing games in Mexico, or something completely idiotic like that. It's like the goal is to destroy the game completely.

If SDSU isn't going to the Pac, it would tend to suggest no one's leaving the Pac, wouldn't it?
Not sure. Maybe the PAC thinks a 10 team league is better financially than 12. Maybe SDSU sees the writing on the wall and knows a deal isn’t coming that keeps the league viable.

If money & visibility didn't matter I would agree, but obviously it does.

Look at the NFL, they haven't been stagnate and only play Sunday afternoons. They added over the last 50+ years:
  1. Thanksgiving Thursday Football
  2. Monday Night Football
  3. Saturday Football in December
  4. Sunday Night Football
  5. Thursday Night Football
  6. Black Friday Football
Sure Thursday or Friday night games are a challenge for fans in the stands who travel a few hours. But as a TV viewer, I would rather watch college football on Thursday night than NFL. And Friday night football seems a natural for the end-of-workweek bar crowd.

The SDSU news is a Friday holiday weekend news dump. Anyone that tries to say this is good for the PAC or sdsu is a terd.

It's REALLY hard for me to believe that staying with remaining ten is best scenario for Pac and a good sign.

When Big 12 did that twice it was with OU and Texas as anchor football programs.

SDSU has major issues in that it's just not a college sports fan base...but they've got to do something losing the massive socal market. Wouldn't have to be another socal team but you'd think something even if it was the SMU longshot.

As someone without season tix this doesn't bug me but I can understand if season ticket holders aren't thrilled about it
Idk… weekday games are night games with a national audience. Jack Trice rocks at night. I imagine the tailgate lots are packed all afternoon with people taking half days or full days off from work. Embrace the positives.

I'd have loved Friday night games as a student. Just go out and party immediately after the game, then all weekend to catch up on studying/projects/life.

I actually had some Tues/Thurs night classes that kept me away from a basketball game or two, never had a friday night class.
