***Official 2023 Weather Thread***

Some time in the next two weeks suddenly the outside will look like a completely different world for green grass, flowers, etc.

Then it will be pretty nice for three weeks and then just really Fing hot for 3 months.

You know what..........bring it on. There may have only been a few brutal cold spells this winter.......but it just seemed like it wouldn't let go. I'm more than ready.

The north woods is just piles of snow right now. In some ways I'd rather just have it one way like that instead of being teased and then seeing more snow just when it's clearing out.

Last week there was concern over a pattern lasting a couple weeks into April with a lot of severe weather. Apparently that's over after just four days? No complaints but I wonder what changed.

Don't know. Lot of April left however. Unless the flow goes meridional and gets blocky, I'm not so sure it won't reload.

Then of course there is May and June.

Been working in Ames since Friday after the storm. Seeing some class 3/4 shingles holding up pretty good but any builder grade or standard shingles are shredded. Depends on the direction of the house but we are seeing most of those get bought completely. Siding is a different story but we are going for discontinued and/or non matching to replace it all for homeowners.

Insurance loves to argue but I love to argue more for my homeowners because I would want my house back to before the damage, not piecemealed together. If anyone is looking for help I’m doing a ton of work there. DM me for company information as I’m from Ames originally and just want to help my hometown.

I absolutely loathe a winter like the one we had in north Iowa. We had enough snow to cross country ski, fat bike, and snowmobile for MAYBE 2 weeks, but from Xmas to April, it never got warm enough to clear the woods and trails for non-snow activities.

It would have been so much better to have a constant and significant snow cover for 3 months than that ****.

Meanwhile up north in my neck of the woods. It's got me curious so going to monitor some of the big parking lot mountain, just for spring fun.

When will those huge piles of snow melt? Try June

Wow. A while back I made a tongue in cheek about if it keeps snowing up their it won't melt until memorial day. I had no idea. I think the longest I have ever seen a pile last was in the Valley West Parking lot about 10 years ago that lasted until early/mid April. But June!!!!!!!!!!

About 10 years ago when I was working up in the BWCA, I arrived mid-May and the ice had broken up 2 or 3 days before I arrived. There was snow in the woods and on portage trails into the first week of June.

Not unusual for ice to be on the lakes in northern minnesota for the fishing opener (second saturday of May).

Flood forecast updated today. Edit: this spring's flood could had been much, much worse but Minnesota area had a very dry late summer/fall. That led to the rivers freezing at a very low level this winter.

To get from the Westroads Mall in Omaha to start heading west on Dodge St/Route 6, it's a cloverleaf entrance. Whoever cleared Westroads parking lot, they would dump snow in the grassy part of that cloverleaf. One particular snowy winter, there was still snow in the middle on April 15th. For snowpiles to still be around in June is kind of mind-blowing.
