Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Is there a scenario where the middle tier (NC State, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Pitt) see the writing on the wall with Clemson/FSU and proactively seek out the XII and push to get out? The old, “you can’t fire me, I quit!”

Why would they take a smaller cut of a lower payout when they could take upper middle class payout in a lower ego league? None of those schools are on the shortlist of the B1G or the SEC.

I’m no insider, but I bet there’s anxiety in Chapel Hill and Coral Gables as well.

Unlikely they have that self awareness. Imo the Middle class schools will be the least likely to compromise, settle, or move imo. Unlike BC, Wake etc, they feel they’ll have a spot in whatever 3rd conference forms, so there is no urgency to deal.

If they think they are a lock to at least be in expanded Big 12, they’ll try to be transaction costs to P2s adding other targets. To get UNC out of ACC, does a conference/network need to take NCSt? Or to get their dissolution vote, do they need a P2 invite?

On the later, that’s the window for a BC type, and why the lower ACC schools have the most motivation to be first to flip

I actually think NC State will go to the SEC. Of all the schools left that may be valuable to the Big10 Or SEC, they are in ACC country. The SEC already has a lot of schools in those states, with NC State being the only one that may be valuable enough to expand their footprint. The Big 10 will really make out like a bandit as they'll be able to expand the Big10 Network (if it's still around by mid 2030) to new states.

How much of the network does the Big ten still own?

More Smoke… this time from a legit Sports outlet.

When you look at this and also realize that we let OuT out a year early for less than what was needed, it aligns pretty darn well to pull teams in. Besides everyone wanting to get rid of the traitors, it also made it cleaner to add teams also. If BY didn’t think he had any chance at it, he wouldn’t have let them out early.

Overlooked with regard unequal revenue was the lawsuit ou was involved with. The obtained rights for teams to market themselves to have their games telecast. They were then able to dictate to the league they were keeping the money. Conference never followed other leagues to market themselves to share revenue. You can say ou/nu were the original bullies. Never any interest in sharing. Now they what to share to get a bigger payout.

I think there's a clause in the ACC bylaws or GOR that takes away the vote of any school that's negotiated a move before the vote to dissolve. So even if 8 or 10 ACC teams had a home in the B10/SEC/B12, none of them would get to vote.

Any AD voting to dissolve without a landing spot lined up would be way out on a limb and the risk/reward isn't great - they have a guaranteed middle class spot for the next decade or so, after all. Upside is basically a parallel move, downside is a catastrophic blow to the athletic department that likely can't be reversed.

If the majority of the schools want out of the ACC and are being held "hostage" by a few, good luck to those schools trying to enforce that in court.
