Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Plus there isn't ESPN or Fox or NBC playing hypeman for your brand.

You're stuck on a low visibility streamer with no cheerleader in the larger market.

I feel for those guys, but they are ******.

Big Ten basketball has basically been 99.99999% media hype for over a decade now.

Lots of adults were little grade school kids the last time it didn't flame out in the tournament yet year after year it's presented as this major thing all winter in the major media outlets. At least in football Ohio State has delivered sometimes.

It's only because the conference was so good they just beat the heck out of each other.

Just had nothing left at the end for that bowl loss or tournament flame out.

Crying shame

Honestly would hate this. Even if there's no money difference now, it makes zero sense to promote SDSU and Boise or whoever just for the sake of getting immediately into the western time zone.

He likely read the PAC-pushed narrative that the Big 12 was interested in MWC schools that the PAC rejected, and spun it as this.

Not a total fabrication. We do have interest in Gonzaga and likely SDSU at a certain price.

Adding the note that espn already has approved pro rata for these schools also could be a narrative some in B12 want pushed due to that being a threat to the notion the “Big 12 will always be an option” .

Likely not true, but plausible we exchanged getting this for accepting what was arguably a below market value deal

SEC football loves that same logic. Auburn, SCAR, UK, Ole Miss, even the big boys like LSU and pre-2020 UGA love throwing that line out when they lay an egg in a bowl game.

Not exactly, at least not on Hulu Live TV. ESPN, several other ESPNs, FOX and FS1 and FS2 are all on the live TV guide, ESPN+ isn't. You have to back out of Live, go to the Hulu home, then the Sports category and then to ESPN+, where you'll toggle through live events its carrying.
ESPN+ live sports show up in my Home screen all the time.... I never, or rarely go to the Sports section to find my games on ESPN+ in the whats on section etc.

And I think once you have started watching one and back out and go to the guide to another show, as long as that event is going it shows on your guide, for recent channels. But as soon as the game is over it falls off the guide.

You have to buy the Disney bundle to get it, $10/month.
NO they changed that... When you sub to Hulu+Live it is now all included. ESPN+ and Disney+ are included in it.

You only need the bundle when you sub to standard Hulu, without live programming.

Honest question for the youths on here (as a 34 year old who regularly drives Uber/Lyft I'm constantly reminded how out of touch I've become):

Do people with Android phones use Apple TV+? As discussed above, I know anyone can get it, but as an Android guy myself I've never even given it a second thought since Apple's stuff usually only plays super well with other Apple stuff.
Apple+ is just an app. You get it on phones, but it is for watching TV shows. I have it on my Amazon FireTV. You get it on any streaming device to watch their content, like movies and shows, just like Netflix they have their own movies and shows.

Yeah, I know it's just another app. Was just curious if there was much crossover from non-apple people.

Maybe it's because Apple TV was originally a physical box that was trying to compete with Chromecast. I wonder if they should have moved away from the Apple TV name?
This is the problem that Playstation Vue had. That Hulu+Live has. Same with Apple+

People dont realize that either you dont need their hardware to run it or that it is something different than their previous product.

These companies I think sometimes are so stuck on their brand name that they dont realize it confuses people with what the product is. I know Playstation Vue tried unsuccessfully to change this perception, and thought about changing the name, but in the end, closed the service. Hulu+Live had a long running ad campaign to try to change what people perceived it to be. And as I mentioned before a lot of people out there dont realize even what Apple+ is or how to get it. A lot of people still think you have to have Apple hardware to use it.

So I'm guessing they probably upped the price of Hulu/Live to cover that, but then say it's included free.

Yeah if you watch something on ESPN+ and then go to your live guide it'll show up there under "Recent".

I sometimes don't have to go to the sports section, the game I want will be showing in the feature area of the home screen, but not always. Same with Prime with TNF, it'll show up immediately upon pulling up the app. My bigger point is that it's really not all that much of a pain pulling up a streamer to find your game if you know what you're looking for.

Price is irrelevant...as they all regularly increase their prices anyway.

My point was there is no longer a bundle for ESPN+ and Disney+ with Live. As a matter of fact there is no option to have Live without those 2 included.

There is only a bundle still available for standard Hulu....but then the guide etc we were talking about is not even a factor because it is not part of standard Hulu.

  • Hulu (No Ads) + Live TV, Disney+ (No Ads) and ESPN+ (With Ads) for $82.99/month.
  • Live TV Only for $68.99/month.This plan gives subscribers access to live content only and does not include the Hulu streaming library or access to Disney+ or ESPN+.
Well not really. Looks like there are just two different options for Hulu Live. One with the bundle and one without.

This is all fine and good for Hulu Live users, but the seamless access to ESPN+ content is still there for everyone else. Whether you are on YouTube TV or Sling or DirectvNow or still with traditional cable or satellite, ESPN+ is a pain in the ass for casual viewing. Going over there to tee up an ISU game is fine, but for everything else it is just too much work. If I am flipping games during commercials or just casually hunting down a game to watch as background noise it is easier to stay within one app or service.

I also see this being unlikely to change soon. Hulu and ESPN+ have an incentive to integrate because Disney owns it all. I don't see that functionality coming to YTTV anytime soon because Disney would rather have you switch fully to their service instead of playing nice with Google.

Being all in or heavily in to true streaming services will push the Pac off of a public exposure cliff. And they struggle in that department enough already.

Agree. This is where the PAC will take it on the chin, they'll lose tons of casual viewers just surfing up and down the guide for the best game and I can't imagine many bars/pubs/restaurants/etc. showing games on streamers unless they're a home bar for someone playing on one of them.

Where is that from? When I go to hulu and look it up this is what is on their site

Hulu + Live TV plans

Edit: @Gonzo it looks like from the attached post and the current post....when they made ESPN+ and Disney+ a permanent inclusion it raised the price $1.
