*** Official Texas Tech vs #14 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

They interviewed Holmes on the post game locker room show and I thought some of his comments were interesting. He said the players returning this year remembered the beat down they got in KC last year from Tech and this game was personal for them. Also said they have a saying in the locker room: "Enjoy playing the tambourine". Not everyone can be a lead singer, and not everyone can be the lead scorer, so when it's your night to play the tambourine enjoy doing it. Fits this team to a T. Amazing chemistry and unselfish play with these guys.
That's awesome. Also I feel like Jaren doesn't get enough love. He's just a solid player for us. not flashy at anything but solid at everything

After watching and loving the Lipsey behind the back pass play several times:

Ward will be called for an illegal screen on the same play if in Lawrence. Maybe any away game.

I think the refs may have been swallowing their whistles by that point.

That moving screen doesn’t have anything on the one that happened at the end of the TCU game lol

When I played ball (many years ago), I did pretty well at the free throw line. I made around 83% each year of high school. While I was at a gym a few months ago, I decided to shoot some free throws for the heck of it and I made 8 of 10. Granted, it wasn't in front of 15,000 screaming fans, and it wasn't immediately after running up and down the court for 20 minutes.

To me, free throws are mainly muscle memory - minimizing all unnecessary movements and using the exact same motion and follow through, never missing right or left, but occasionally missing short or long. It just seems strange to me that some of the best players in the country struggle so much in this area.

I was really upset last night
NO JUICY WIGGLE.
I promised some friends who were attending their first game . Major disappointment.

My wife was upset they barely showed any pets on the video board at timeouts. She sent in a pic of one of the goats wearing an ISU scarf and stocking hat and really wanted to see it

LMAO

Technically Eli King (with a sample size of 4/4).

In terms of guys who play significant minutes, though...

Osunniyi
Kunc
Kalscheur
Lipsey
Grill

...are all >70% from the line. None are elite, though.

Holmes has shot the ball well from three. 37% on the season attempting 3 a game. However, 65% at the line for our leader in free throw attempts leaves a lot to be desired. Last year at St Bonaventure he shot 76.4% on 144 attempts so hopefully he is due for some positive regression at the line.

Robert Jones seemed to start the year off better at the line but has especially struggled of late. Would love for him to get up closer to 50% at least. Almost cost us in Ft Worth.

We are really bad at getting to the line - which is good, because we really aren't very good at shooting FTs

What about Sweet Caroline? Was it played after the game?

Nope 30 point blow out doesn't get you sweet Caroline I think that might have been the case with Juicy Wiggle game just wasn't close enough to justify it or maybe just because no students though families like it also,

Free throws are considerably harder when you’re gassed. Most coaches will make you practice them after sprints to somewhat replicate an actual in-game free throw.

At the end of our practices, when everyone was gassed, our coach would have us all line up along the baseline. Then he'd pick someone to come out and shoot a free throw. If that person missed, he would have to go sit in the bleachers and watch everyone else on the team run a double eliminator. You learned to take free throws very seriously.
