*** Official Texas Tech vs #14 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

I owe Big Rob an apology, he has been very good the last few games. If he takes the wide open lay ups and put backs and avoids trying to create a shot which more than not turns into a bad shot/defecto turnover he is very efficient. He has always been a good rebounder and defender. Rob please shoot a minimum of 100 MADE free throws after every practice.
He's already started to fix those forced shots. He was patient last night and just torched Tech's posts.

I’m reading between the lines a bit here, but I think he was a guy who did care a ton about his stat line, which is why lately you’ve heard our guys talk about the fact that every guy on this year’s team doesn’t care about that. I think they’re taking “subtle” shots at Tyrese.

Either way I had fun watching him last year and am glad he helped the team make the Sweet 16. The sting hurts far less with Lipsey being as good as he is.
If Lipsey cares more about his stat line, he can easily average 12-15 points per game. He just needs to shoot more which may not be the best thing for this team

That was so f*cking embarrassing. Not just an end of the bench walk-on, but a g*ddamn student manager.

Hard to believe that was just two years ago.
I have clearer memories of the Fizer/Tinsley Elite 8 season than I do that trainwreck in 2020-21. Even though I was only 10/11 years old for the former. Copious amount of alcohol helped me forget. It was needed too, because I never quit on that team. Watched every game that season start to finish for the most part.

I think Adams is in danger of completely losing that team. Seen a lot of good teams come in to Hilton and get beat, but this group was finished well before halftime. You could tell by their demeanor. They looked beat even when the score was close.

So unless this was their "Iowa" game like ISU had a month ago......Tech better regroup fast or it's going to get out of control.......if it already isn't.

I wonder why Kerwin Walton is not playing more for them. His 2nd half minutes were about the only competent offense Tech had the whole game

Agreed. I thought Tech started the 2nd half with great intensity/movement and went on a little run in the first few minutes to cut the lead to 14/15 points (with the ball), iirc. Tech bench and fans behind the bench were back into the game. We answered immediately and grew the lead back to 20+. That seemed to kill any positive energy Tech had. Fun to essentially end the game by the under-12 timeout.

Both are playing

Glad they both played. Pop is a really good outside shooter (made at least 4 threes in their last 3 games) but we had him extremely flustered last night.

Batcho was on a tear in non-conference play. One the most improved players in the country. He's just a freak athlete. He's been very pedestrian in Big 12 play though.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the future of Tech basketball. They have all kinds of problems internally. Will lose Obanor for sure but all their other important pieces could return next year. Doesn't look like it will matter when or if Fardaws returns this year. 0-4 likely to be 0-5 after Saturday (@ Texas) is likely too deep of hole to climb out of in the Big 12. Their non-conference resume was unimpressive as well.

god, those two blocking calls that should have been charges at ~18:30 and 17:30 in the second half...wow.
Yeah, pretty much anytime you lead with your off arm you should get that call.

I was confused last night when TT went to the line with a couple minutes gone in the second half. It looked like a common foul to me, and it seemed like he was shooting a 1 and 1. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention.

Tech coach reminds me of Austin Powers.

Still love Lipsey.

We shot better from 3 than free throws. Hope the free throws don’t come back to bite us in a close game. Not even sure who should shoot technicals if one is called other than not Big Rob.

Is Osun still up in the 80s% I think he was earlier in the yr.
@Sigmapolis who are our best free throw shooters this yr?

They interviewed Holmes on the post game locker room show and I thought some of his comments were interesting. He said the players returning this year remembered the beat down they got in KC last year from Tech and this game was personal for them. Also said they have a saying in the locker room: "Enjoy playing the tambourine". Not everyone can be a lead singer, and not everyone can be the lead scorer, so when it's your night to play the tambourine enjoy doing it. Fits this team to a T. Amazing chemistry and unselfish play with these guys.
That postgame interview with Holmes was incredible. Was up there with one of the best I've heard.

My favorite was probably Monte after that Iowa game when Heft was asking him about Uthoff scoring 30 first half points and Monte replying, "Oh, how many he get in the 2nd half?"

Technically Eli King (with a sample size of 4/4).

In terms of guys who play significant minutes, though...

Osunniyi
Kunc
Kalscheur
Lipsey
Grill

...are all >70% from the line. None are elite, though.

Haha, OU getting bumped on every drive with no whistle. Perhaps not but that’s what I’m seeing.
You kind of figure that is at least a part of the recipe in Lawrence. You are playing a good team, albeit they have cheated to get there and to stay there. Then you add the obligitory home brew from the refs.

I hope we can beat them there, this year, if not sooner, haha. It's not soon enough! I mean, we beat them there last year, but I guess that didn't count. :(
