God do I ever hate Vista

I love my Vista. Took a while to get used to it and went online and found ways to make it faster. I love it now. I think XP is a clunker compared to Vista now.

A desktop w/ 2GB and a laptop w/ 3GB, both running Vista. Zero problems whatsoever, both run games easily. Both do what I need/want them to do. I seriously don't understand what people are doing to their computers to get Vista to underperform so badly...

Those of you with Windows 7, how did your drivers do with the upgrade? I would be interested in trying 7 on my laptop but am nervous about what will and will not work. When I tried to downgrade to XP I couldn't get drivers for a lot of the extra buttons, bluetooth, or my wireless card.

xp is the best OS microsoft has ever developed.

For vista:

1. Get 4g ram
2. Turn off UAC

It will start behaving more like xp.

Im not sure if it has all of the driver support yet, but it found all of my stuff. You may be able to pass some xp drivers. If you are looking at tinkering with windows 7 beta anyway, i wouldnt worry too much about it.

4gb of ram and 2 years with Vista. No problems except Itunes doesn't always play well. I rarely see over 50% of my memory being used even with 6-7 apps open at once.

I have noticed itunes runs like crap on anything but a mac anyway. Its a slow app. Terrible.

Vista is fine for me - i actually like it. funny how it has become the vogue thing to bash Vista.

Yes, it seems that way. I have alot of people here at work ***** about vista that they have at home and their issues with it are always user error. But they heard from a friend of a friend that Vista is supposed to suck so they just say so.

I still think that Microsoft is not the problem with Vista. It's all of the computer companies bloating Vista with their own programs and extras that they get paid to add. Since most users buy computers from big box stores and never question the software that comes on the computer it's obviously Vista that's making their computer slow. It has nothing to do with the fact that they are running 2 Virus programs along with a separate popup blocker and a spyware program because they saw on the news that someone can hack their internet and get all of their bank accounts and SS number. I would bet that people complaining about Vista taking too many resources just needs to install the box version from Microsoft and give that a try. I understand that Vista takes more resources than XP but computers these days have more than enough to allow it to run smoothly.

If Microsoft was smart they would require that all versions of Windows 7 must be the original from microsoft. Any extra programs added must be on a separate disk so anyone can get a stripped down version if they want. Also along those lines require a disk rather than this BS about a backup partition on your hard drive and you can burn the disks if you choose.

I am a Linux (Ubuntu) and WinXP user. Got my very first Vista system last week. Never really needed one until recently; I was fine with my Pentium 4 systems, then found a deal I couldn't refuse on a Core 2 Duo for $225 on the Dell outlet store 'scratch & dent' section. Came with Vista, of course.

I am amazed at just how incredibly horrible Vista is. It is a total piece of trash. I still have an old Pentium 3 box lying somewhere, with 256M of RAM running XP. It is lightning fast compared to this 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo box with 2G of RAM running Vista. And, yes, I do have the BIOS option enabled to make sure both cores are being used.

I just got done burining a new Ubuntu 8.10 disc (can''t find where I placed my old one) so I can blow away Vista and replace it with Ubuntu. On a Core 2 Duo, Ubuntu should FLY.

You should try Windows "Mojave" :jimlad:

Buy a mac and you pay way too much for a bunch of marketing fluff.

Exactly.

My parents bought a MAC and its great for an email and internet machine. Other than that, not much else wows me. Too pricey for something so basic.

That and you can't "right-click" straight out of the box. You either have to "apple-click" or spend extra $$$ on a mouse to get the right click. Seriously - is it too much to ask for to put a mouse that has two buttons on it into the box? I mean, all of these "inferior" computer companies were able to figure out how to do it...

We bought a computer over Christmas that came with Vista and have had a ton of problems. CIV4 crashes without warning and ITUNES gives us communications errors.

I wish I had XP on the box. If I had a copy, I'd put it on in a heartbeat.

I just got back from my parents' house, and they have changed from PC to Mac, and wow, what a piece of crap that Mac is. Always crashing. Does not play well with Army Knowledge Online. Not very intuitive at all.

I know it's "possible" that my 80 year old mom and dad have done something to it to screw it up, but I saw nothing of the vaunted Mac ease of use and dependability that I hear all about. In fact, all I saw was an overpriced piece of junk.

I think I've outgrown the big crayons. I can use a PC.

Make sure you have vista-compatible versions of those programs. Older programs/games may need a patch to run properly on Vista.

Honestly, Microsoft laid an egg with Vista and they know it. Why do you think they've moved so fast with Windows 7?

Outside of the annoying security measures and horrible performance, the interface changes are for the worse across the board. It took me an hour to get my network up and running and my vista pc added to my home workgroup entirely due to a completely new and jacked up interface in Vista. And pretty much everything you do administratively with your pc is like that - changed for no good reason.

It is no small wonder that people are frustrated with Vista. It looks different, it's complicated, things are harder to find, and the security is a pain in the butt. I always tell people to turn UAC off, always log in as an administrator, and it's at least a little less annoying to run then. As far as the interface, you just have to get used to it. It should not be as different as it is, but that's just what it is.
