God do I ever hate Vista

That and you can't "right-click" straight out of the box. You either have to "apple-click" or spend extra $$$ on a mouse to get the right click. Seriously - is it too much to ask for to put a mouse that has two buttons on it into the box? I mean, all of these "inferior" computer companies were able to figure out how to do it...

More than one mouse button is too confusing for the vast majority of Mac users :jimlad:

Honestly, Microsoft laid an egg with Vista and they know it. Why do you think they've moved so fast with Windows 7?

Outside of the annoying security measures and horrible performance, the interface changes are for the worse across the board. It took me an hour to get my network up and running and my vista pc added to my home workgroup entirely due to a completely new and jacked up interface in Vista. And pretty much everything you do administratively with your pc is like that - changed for no good reason.

It is no small wonder that people are frustrated with Vista. It looks different, it's complicated, things are harder to find, and the security is a pain in the butt. I always tell people to turn UAC off, always log in as an administrator, and it's at least a little less annoying to run then. As far as the interface, you just have to get used to it. It should not be as different as it is, but that's just what it is.

I actually like the network dialog better than XP. Just because you're used to something doesn't mean that the new way isn't "better".

There are a couple of nitpicky things that are annoying in Vista (PLEASE give me back my add/remove programs instead of the "programs blah blah" dialog), but for the most part it's the same.

I don't think the vista interface is any different than XP in any substantive way. Just change the start menu back to "classic" if you don't like the new one. Aside from that, it's largely identical to XP. I honestly can't tell the difference between XP and Vista most of the time, aside for configuring wireless networks (which is WAY easier than in XP, IMO), and prettier icons in Vista.

And if Vista is such an egg, Windows 7 will only be worse. It has essentially the same interface as Vista, with no option to go backwards.

Granted. I will admit, I love my XP. It just works.

Part of the challenge in updating an interface is getting people familiarized with it. Changing things for the sake of changing them is not generally a good idea (i.e. Add/Remove programs). And if you're going to make a change, make damn sure it's as easy or easier to find and use.

Those of you with Windows 7, how did your drivers do with the upgrade? I would be interested in trying 7 on my laptop but am nervous about what will and will not work. When I tried to downgrade to XP I couldn't get drivers for a lot of the extra buttons, bluetooth, or my wireless card.

Mine found all my stuff for me. Chances are, if something worked in vista, its going to work as well, if not better, in win7, as the changes to 7 are not as radical as 98-->XP or XP--> vista was

Agreed.

Vista didnt take me long to figure out. I can see some novice users not understanding the new interface for certain things, but most never need to use that stuff anyway. The UAC was a pain but as soon as you turn it off its no biggie. I dont LOVE vista, but I dont hate it either. It basically will tide most people over until 7 which should gain the rain of the XP crowd I would think.
