Thanks so much to @madguy30 for this idea - I am going to write down all the things:

Hacks. What are your convenient/cheap ways to fix or do something useful?

Not exactly brain surgery on this fix, but the dog water bowl on the porch is in the shade and after a few days of just refilling it will get mossy. I was using cleaners designed for moss but then worrying about whether that was harmful for dog and rinsing the bowl a ton. Started cleaning the bowl with vinegar. The moss stays gone longer and the vinegar is not harmful. Just like with people it can aid dogs with digestion if any remains in the bowl.

Zip ties.

Keeping cabinets shut from toddlers, use them around the garden with poles/animal fencing, a pad on the basketball hoop pipe, holding bike stuff on the bike frame, I use them for things like temporarily hanging ceiling lights and fans while wiring them up.

I use a few for outdoor/nature adventures.

One is for beer.

If no ice available, hang a can of beer in a (clean water) wet sock. Wind makesit cold relatively quickly.

My husband also uses zip ties a lot, which when I think about it, is somewhat disconcerting.

He attaches garden fencing to poles with it and since he gets the neon colored ones, adds a little color.

Also uses carabiner clips for many purposes. We were getting so many birds on our suet holder at one time that they would pop the holder open so now with the clip that doesn’t happen. Also the dog was working out how to open his crate from the inside so we add the clip if he’s going to be in there very long.

A small piece of wood on the garage floor is a great indicator when your vehicle is deep enough in the garage.

Assuming, of course, it is placed correctly and the kids leave it alone.
Ha- that reminds me:

In my childhood home, there was a low-hanging vertical exhaust pipe right at forehead level next to the central air unit. My dad hung a long block of wood from it to remind him not to run into it. Well, us kids being rambunctious as we were eventually broke the string suspending the wood block.

Fast forward about a day later: I'm sitting on the toilet when I hear a loud THUD and actually feel the vibration from downstairs followed by a delayed "Yeee-AAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!"

I finished up very quickly and ran outside to hide.

For weed control in your garden use your lawn clippings as mulch. Keep adding to it occasionally throughout the summer, not only does it add some nice compost material to the soil but really cuts down on how much area you have to weed. I till mine up in the fall so it composts further over the winter.

I use a couple of the corkscrew dog tie downs and a couple of steel choke chain collars with steel chain caribiners to tie down the trampoline after I move it to mow. I don't have to worry about high winds in a storm blowing it into my neighbors' or my window.

Wood splinters, or golf tees:

I use wood splinters when a screw rips out the threads in wood or particle board, just shove the splinter down the hole, the screw will have something to tighten against.
Similar idea with the golf tee, if I miss while predrilling a hole in wood by a smidge, shove a golf tee in there cut the top flush with the surface and predrill in the right spot.

Are you only adding grass clippings when the lawn hasn't gone to seed?
