Friday #2 - Jim Duggan

These also work for the legs of your canopy or tent. You never know when a sudden gust of wind will toss it across the neighborhood (and/or into your or a neighboring car.) Not recommended for paved lots when tailgating at JTS.
For tailgating on pavement my buddy made anchor buckets. He filled 6 smaller (2-3 gallon) buckets half full with quickcrete. He sank 1 or 2 bolts head first into the wet concrete. You can then set a canopy leg in each bucket, putting the holes in the base of the canopy leg over the bolt and then screw washers and wingnuts over them to secure the canopy. The ones with two bolts are for where two canopies are side by side. They anchor the canopies down and have the added benefit of raising the canopies by the depth of the concrete since some canopies are a head bump hazard for taller tailgaters.

I don't know if this is a "fix" or not, but when I make spaghetti sauce (I don't use the stuff in a jar - never tastes right to me), if it's a little thin when it's heated, I put about 1/4 cup of unflavored instant potato flakes in the sauce. Stir it in and it thickens right up without affecting the flavor at all.

What is this? Explain it to me like I am 8 years old.

Imagine you have two columns of data.

1 A
2 B
3 A
4 A
5 B
6 A
7 B
8 C
9 D

etc.

If you need to bring the letter somewhere else (usually another worksheet) then you can use INDEX/MATCH to call upon the right letter based on, in this example, the right number.

For instance...

=INDEX(right_column,MATCH(1,left_column,0)) will return "A"

=INDEX(right_column,MATCH(8,left_column,0)) will return "C"

=INDEX(right_column,MATCH(9,left_column,0)) will return "D"

There is a version of it with two matches where you can do a match in two directions, too --

=INDEX(,MATCH(,,0),MATCH(,,0))

Andy Fales mentioned one on their show the other day. It's for how to quickly cool a hot car that had had windows up.

You put the front passenger window all the way down then open and shut the driver side door 4 or 5 times quickly.

Haven't tried it yet.

I wonder if that pushes the hot air out?

Zip ties.

Keeping cabinets shut from toddlers, use them around the garden with poles/animal fencing, a pad on the basketball hoop pipe, holding bike stuff on the bike frame, I use them for things like temporarily hanging ceiling lights and fans while wiring them up.

Bonus can also use zip ties to keep toddler in their high chair and in their room at night.

Perhaps this is widely known already, thought of it because I happened to do it last night. Microwave cleaning -- Pyrex measuring cup (or any micro-safe container), hot water + a bit of dish soap. Run microwave on high for ~5 minutes. After it stops, keep door closed for a few minutes, then wipe interior of unit ... steam softens majority of the gunk, no need to "scrub" or use any special cleaners.

My Dad was just telling me, when he used to farm, my uncle used a little bit of ether + a match to reseat the beads on a large tire that'd gone flat and fallen off the rim!

He then said he's seen tires start on fire and also get "blown clean off the rim", so maybe this isn't actually that great of a hack :D

My "hint" was similar to @cyclones500 . But, it involves a large shallow bowl (pasta, vegetable serving) with water and white vinegar. 5 minutes of microwaving, let it sit so that the steam condenses onto the sides and door, wipe down.

I don't know if I'm just not doing it right anymore but last couple years I've struggled with food packaged in resealable/zip lock bags. I can't seem to get them to separate without ripping a hole in the bag thus not being able to reseal it.

I've started doing it a bit differently. Instead of just pulling it apart, I kind of slide the connection laterally and sometime it pops open somewhere up or down the line so you can get it started. Not foolproof but works pretty good for me.
