The Fran fade

Yeah, they're making hay in a league with a really soft middle and a horrible bottom. The OSU win was a good one though
I’ve watched a little bit of Iowa lately and have a couple of observations: Fran seems remarkably calm, and it’s creepy AF. Also if they played TTech right now they would feel like they’re playing a completely different sport. There would be multiple Hawkeyes on the ground (or at least flailing wildly) on nearly every possession. It would be up to the refs to decide how to handle it.

Yeah, they are pretty talented offensively, but if they ran into a team that defends anywhere close to Tech, they're going to struggle. Harder to take consistently that offensive game on the road or neutral site as well, though they did well against Ohio State.

I don't have much to add to this conversation right now except this:

If I ever watch the Hawks play, it is with my Hawk loving father in law. Lately, he has been returning the favor and watching Iowa State games with me, since they are "halfway decent this year" in his words.

We watched the WVU game last night, and in the first half I had to listen to him drivel on about how unfortunate it is that Brockington can't go right and that it really limits him at this level of basketball. *Eye roll*...the first half unravels on ISU and by the time we're down 10 and the buzzer sounds, he turns to me and says, "Be honest with me, how in the hell did these guys beat Iowa?"

I have never wanted to hit someone so bad in my life. Let's just say he's lucky I love his daughter.

The 2nd half was a ton of fun. He got progressively quieter as Iowa State seized momentum back and took a lead, en route to the victory. Poor guy wasn't even in the room when Brockington made the play of the game.

What's funny is that he's correct in Brockerington's game, but he still gets whatever shot he wants lol. Imagine if he had an average right hand? And the second part is just biased thinking. Iowa is not some world beating team for god sakes. Neither is Iowa State. But Iowa State is a team that Iowa flat out struggles against and that's a team that pressures the **** out of you and has very solid guard play.

I think the way he sees it is how the average Hawk fan sees it too. They watch their world beating Hawks beat the "blue-blood" Spartans by almost 30, in the midst of winning a bunch of other games against mediocre at best opponents by 20+, and then see Iowa State struggle with "lowly" West Virginia, not to mention recent ugly losses prior to the now 3-game winning streak. How could their star-studded Hawks lose to the rag tag Cyclones team with nothing but a guard who can't dribble to his right? It's simply unfathomable to them and I think it's hilarious.

Yeah I mentioned this in another thread I believe but Iowa's going to end up with 9 conference wins against teams that are ranked worse than WVU. Saw some Iowa fans making fun of Iowa State fans being excited about that win (it was more the circumstance of how we won), and I thought it was funny how WVU compares to some (most) of their own wins.

I kept telling him Iowa State is one of the best defensive teams in the country, and defense is largely how they've managed to win 19 games. He didn't believe me because Iowa St had given up 40+ points in a half in his 1-game sample size.

That'd be like watching Iowa only against Rutgers and Iowa State and saying Iowa isn't that good at offense lol.

No kidding. Give me WVU any day or night of the week against the likes of Minnesota, Nebby, Northwestern, Penn State or Maryland

The level swagger that Iowa fans have again all of a sudden is hilarious and baffling to me. No question that the Ohio State game was a big win. Michigan State was a good win...but how good? Besides those two games they've beaten MN, NEB, and Maryland. Just god awful teams. Chad Lestikow, who's boner for the Hawks has to be hurting right now, says 'oh maybe this team is gonna be special...'. Sure...they could be. But look at last year...Iowa was a #2 seed that similar to THIS year, they went on a run beating teams and won 8 of 9 etc before the tourney...INCLUDING a 30 point win AT Michigan State.

All this being for this point...they are good. They aren't great. They face any sort of defensive guards and a solid big man and they're toast.

It’s recency bias to a T. They’ve had two good wins in a row and some of their fans think they’re all of a sudden an amazing team.
