Dude slipped and hit his head leaving the Johnston AMC. Went and helped him up, he is going to have a bad headache.

Accuweather still has 3 to 6 for Ames. I got a weather station for xmas and its more accurate than anything else around. Obviously this is from my roof and neighborhood. But this thing is spot on.

Whose area? Ames?Dry air will keep totals at the lower end for your area.
Thank youDry air will keep totals at the lower end for your area.
Ames is 3-6 so on the lower end of that range. If Des Moines is your area same. What will suck is the wind/drifting.Whose area? Ames?
I can vouch for this. Just went out to retrieve our garbage cans in Ankeny and gave up because the driveway is glazed like a Krispy Kreme!
Got the snow blower out this afternoon. Started on the first pull without using the choke! I almost slipped and fell on the slick driveway, though.
Might be time to fire up the annual single vs two-stage snowblower debate...Fired mine up too first pull and started humming like a champ.

I am not sure I see what the NWS or local news is seeing but I don't think we will get 5-7 inches of snow in DSM. The latest GFS model shows about 2-4 inches of snow. The Euro model shows 2-3 inches of snow. The latest HRRR shows 2-3 inches of snow. The NAM 3km shows 1-2 inches of snow. The NAM 12km (less reliable) shows 2-4 inches of snow in Des Moines with a huge cutoff line on the Polk - Story county line. The CMC (Not very reliable) shows 2-3 inches in Des Moines, less up north, heavier totals down in southern Iowa. I just looked up the forecasted totals as of 5:00 AM and they have Des Moines getting about 4.7". Ames getting about 3". I think the bigger story will be the wind / blowing snow, and very cold temperatures.
I am pretty sure the NWS is predicting a higher amount at the request of HyVee...they have to pay for their new security team.I am not sure I see what the NWS or local news is seeing but I don't think we will get 5-7 inches of snow in DSM.
