SW Iowa is no picnic either. Thin layer of ice on untreated streets and sidewalks. Driving on gravel as much as possible. I80 looks fine, no ice or terrorists.

Heading to Ames today from Omaha...do not want to miss this one.

SREF (Short Range Ensemble Forecasts) still going great guns for the Ames area, indicating 6+ inch snowfall. Regardless of snow, the wind and cold are going to be big stories.

It sucks in central Iowa right now. We tried to run out to WDM from Ankeny, turned around at the first exit, car was sliding all over the place. Not worth it, will go sunday instead.
I can vouch for this. Just went out to retrieve our garbage cans in Ankeny and gave up because the driveway is glazed like a Krispy Kreme!

Just drove from WSDM to Ankeny and back............no problem. I80 and 35 are speed limit and faster. Side roads we drove on are fine.

I'd appreciate any updates on 35 from Des Moines to Ames tonight. I was planning on staying in Ames tonight because I didn't want to mess with the storm tomorrow, but now suddenly it seems like it is going to be a ***** to get to Ames tonight.

SIAP

Thanks! I should have clarified...I've seen those road reports and actually have someone who has spent the last 2 hours trying to get to Minneapolis and is just now hitting Story City. So I know they haven't been good.

I'd just like someone to tell me that it will be better at 5, when I'm hoping to leave.....

Tried to start our drive from Des Moines to Minneapolis this afternoon and turned around and came home at Story City. Probably 15-20 cars in the ditch between DSM and SC and most of them were fresh with the people still in the car or towers pulling them out. I’ve got an all wheel drive Jeep with snow tires and my car was still sliding around like crazy. Would not recommend going north of Ankeny if you can help it. Once I got back close to DSM, roads were okay.

Doubt it will be better in 90 minutes. There's only 1 DOT plow applying material between Ankeny and Ames on the 511 website.

Interesting. I was running errands in Des Moines from 10:30 to 1 and thought it was just fine.

Multiple accidents between dm and Ames, multi car accidents. Traffic is moving at around 30 mph
