The Fran fade

“In 124 season of Iowa basketball, there have only been 19 with a better overall winning percentage than the one which just ended. Only 14 saw Iowa with a better conference winning percentage and in terms of raw totals, this was the most Big Ten wins in program history (tied with 1987 and 1970).”

So this was a historic season (their words, not mine). 19 seasons with better win/loss percentage overall and 14 seasons with better conference win/loss percentage - how the #### is that historic?

Remember those 19 seasons that were statistically better than our Fizer Tinsley #3 final ranking.

I said at the beginning of the year that I thought Iowa would be a solid top 20 team. I never bought into the whole top 5 thing or Big Ten Contenders. They actually exceeded my expectations this year except for the Oregon game.
Basically the same team as 19-20, swap Kriener for Nunge, have Pat much healthier, Jordan healthier, and Keegan is better than Pemsl. Plus all the experience of Joe, Luka, Jordan, and Connor returning.
You honestly didn't think Iowa was a Big Ten contender? Why is that?

Not saying you can or can't. Just saying that he was comparing this year's Iowa's team to other historical teams. While Iowa doesn't have the best bball program, their history is still a lot better than ISU's.

Not if you want to claim this team as an all time great. If you claim that your entire history sucks compared to just the last 22 years of ISU basketball.

Because they are Iowa.

But Iowa still has a much better basketball history than ISU has. That is crazy.

Not sure I would be pushing my chips all in on the pre internet era.... but
I don't think he's on most draft boards, is he transferring or just wants to start pro ball. I'm sure he can make a lot of money somewhere but he's not close to that first round guaranteed contract.

I think the point with Weezy is that most don't think another year will matter draft stock wise. If anything next season could hurt more than it helps with Garza out of the picture. This certainly feels like a strike while the iron is hot situation for Joe.

I guess it wouldn't be that different than Wigginton leaving early. He was projected late 2nd round or not drafted and didn't get drafted. If Weiskamp openly states he's coming out some draft boards might put him late second round and some won't have him.

Probably similar college stat production.

If you're looking for excuses, you'll love this article.
-Terrible draw
-Injuries
-Oregon was fresher
-The Ducks had more time to scout Iowa

I half expected the author to talk about how Iowa actually overachieved, considering they're still digging out of the Todd Lickliter hole.

Lol....but then I catch myself as I'm reminded we have a poster here who offers up excuses the reason we get double-digit pounded by Iowa is because, "it's there Superbowl".

TJ gonna correct that and we're gonna be back to the premier team in the state.

Imagine the butthurt at a year 3 TJ into the S16 .....

I didn't bring up their history. Someone else did and made fun of it. I just merely pointed out that Iowa has a much better history than ISU.

I said at the beginning of the year that I thought Iowa would be a solid top 20 team. I never bought into the whole top 5 thing or Big Ten Contenders. They actually exceeded my expectations this year except for the Oregon game.

Yeah but that's just your schtick in general - set Iowa State expectations impossibly high, set Iowa expectations unreasonably low. Lmao if you're really trying to spin Iowa exceeding your expectations this year

I mean if you don't think age plays a factor I don't know what to tell ya
Meh - rate of change of a kid in college between 18-22 or 20-24 isn't going to be all that different given the same point of experience in a program. 99% of kids are well past the rapid physical rate of change phase by 18, and they aren't going to run into a major slowdown until after 24 anyway. For most kids that development being huge from 18-19 is a function of them being in college for a year, not age.

So to further explain
Player A is a 20 year old freshman, Player B is an 18 year old freshman. Both are likely to make a big jump after a year in the program. Player B might improve more, but it's probably marginal. The major difference in development between these two will be in filling out, which is overrated in basketball.

Player C is a 20 year old freshman, Player D is a 20 year old junior. Player C is going to make a much larger jump on the basis of it being his first year in the program.

So will old underclassmen like Murray and Pat McC slow down in development before a typical 18 year old freshman? Yes, but the difference is going to be marginal until after they are gone from Iowa.

So, you still believe that Minnesota's football history is way superior than Iowa's?

TJ is literally Prohm 2.0

What does literally really mean?
Literally is defined as something that is actually true, or exactly what you are saying word for word. An example of literally is when you say you actually received 100 letters in response to an article. ... (speech act) Word for word; not figuratively; not as an idiom or metaphor.

"the luck of the draw, went totally against the Hawkeyes. It didn’t matter in the first round, but Iowa’s 15-2 draw against Grand Canyon was a classic tournament committee setup. Few teams in the country have the big men to compete with Garza inside and Iowa was handed the only low major around with three of them to throw at him. In round 2, it was the polar opposite. Oregon didn’t have anyone to throw at Garza but they had a roster full of athletes Iowa simply couldn’t guard."

holy batman, Grand Canyon just a classic set up. Everyone hates Iowa apparently.

"GCU was a bad matchup because they had big men to compete with Luka."
"Oregon was a bad matchup because they didn't have players to match up with Luka."

Apparently any team good enough to get into the tournament was a bad matchup for iowa.
