The Fran fade

If you're looking for excuses, you'll love this article.
-Terrible draw
-Injuries
-Oregon was fresher
-The Ducks had more time to scout Iowa

I half expected the author to talk about how Iowa actually overachieved, considering they're still digging out of the Todd Lickliter hole.

I love the tag line of “we’re going to be telling our grandkids about this team”. Lol seriously?? I mean I get talking about Luka, but the team as a whole?

“C’mere sport I need to tell you about the ‘20-‘21 Hawkeyes. A team of destiny and a season to remember. There were talks of a Big 10 Championship and a Final 4 run prior to the season started. We dominated Iowa State that year and finished in the top 10.”

“WOW Grandpa, did they end up winning the Big 10 and make the Final 4?”

“Nope, they got 3rd in their conference and lost by 14 to a 7 seed in the round of 32. An unreal team though.”

“In 124 season of Iowa basketball, there have only been 19 with a better overall winning percentage than the one which just ended. Only 14 saw Iowa with a better conference winning percentage and in terms of raw totals, this was the most Big Ten wins in program history (tied with 1987 and 1970).”

So this was a historic season (their words, not mine). 19 seasons with better win/loss percentage overall and 14 seasons with better conference win/loss percentage - how the #### is that historic?

"the luck of the draw, went totally against the Hawkeyes. It didn’t matter in the first round, but Iowa’s 15-2 draw against Grand Canyon was a classic tournament committee setup. Few teams in the country have the big men to compete with Garza inside and Iowa was handed the only low major around with three of them to throw at him. In round 2, it was the polar opposite. Oregon didn’t have anyone to throw at Garza but they had a roster full of athletes Iowa simply couldn’t guard."

holy batman, Grand Canyon just a classic set up. Everyone hates Iowa apparently.

One of Iowa's greatest teams of all time simply couldn't guard a 7 seed lol

I like the part about telling your grandkids about "superstar" Luka Garza.
Grandkids: "Who?
Hok parent: "The guy who lit up the Slovenian league"

Wasn't Oregon missing their best player?

How are 20 year olds not fresh after a couple of days rest and winning the first round by such a wide margin?

But Iowa still has a much better basketball history than ISU has. That is crazy.

"But at the end of the day, we just witnessed one of the greatest basketball seasons in program history."

I just know I have Hok friends that will be all over this and it will be interesting to see what their answer is to 'What did they accomplish?'.

This is unreal. Lol

HISTORIC season.

Sure was historic - biggest claim is they won ONE NCAA tournament game. No BIG regular season title, no BIG tourney title, nothing other than beating the 15 seed in the NCAA tourney. If that is what is takes to be considered historic, we have sure set the bar low.
