Correct, you can get Cedar Ridge at all the main alcohol places in Chicago. I saw it at Target and Jewel Osco last week too.
I am a whiskey drinker, my suggestion would be to try and find something from Iowa that your friend can't get here. Templeton Rye, Cedar Ridge, those are pretty much available everywhere here. Even if it isn't great, I'd appreciate a bottle of something I can't get locally, more than a good bottle I can just go pick up at Binny's.
BTW, for those that are Rye drinkers, pick up a bottle of Old Forester Rye. It's 100 proof and it's amazing.
You can get the normal Cedar Ridge Bourbon in Chicago but you can't get any of the special finishes or the wheat whiskey, etc. So that may be something more unique.
What about the CR single malt? Not sure if his buddy is a scotch guy, but that could be unique if not available in Chicago. It's pretty good. I've had the CR maple whiskey and wasn't a fan, but I'm not usually a fan of the flavored stuff, seems to syrupy.

A month or so ago, you could get a "store pick" Cedar Ridge Single Malt Cask Strength at the Hy-Vee on Merle Hay in Johnston. I thought it was really good. I think it was $50, and you could get $.10 off a gallon of gas.![]()
When they start putting fuel savers on liquor, I'm in trouble.
Yeah, this is exactly what I'm going for. I don't want to get something he can get where he lives. Needs to be specific to Iowa.
Tried that at the last Cyclone Liquors tasting show. Told the distributor I thought the bottle/label said "Nog" on the front and wondered if it was a whiskey-spiked egg nog. It's not.Cedar Ridge also produces Slipnot No.9, may be worth a try for something uncommon
Cat's Eye distillery in Davenport is putting out some interesting stuff. Obtanium seems to get pretty good pub in the Whiskey circles.
The best meth is made from the best anhydrous.Get him some good old Iowa meth. We are supposed to have some of the best out there.

Yes, they have very good vodka and bourbon....so good that I actually joined their barrel club. The owners are great people and are very passionate about craft distilling.Anyone have anything from the Lonely Oak Distillery in Earling? I've been tempted as I am from around there, but never get back there anymore.
I posed this to our overlord (@ChrisMWilliams) but I’m sure he’s far too busy running a business to answer...
I’m visiting a friend in Chicago in a few weeks. He’s a bourbon drinker. I imbibe on occasion but don’t know the first thing about them. What are some good Iowa bourbons that I can give him as a gift? I want to give him something he can’t get where he lives.
TIA
I'll be thereNot exactly what you asked for, but here are some very unique Iowa products available at the DSM Whiskey Club event next week.
