Fat Stanley without Doyle

I'd personally like to see them treat every game - there's only 12- with the same emphasis, time and dedication to win. But if they really do ration their emphasis, which I doubt, then please put more emphasis on stopping Iowa from beating us 5x in a row.

It reminds me of recruiting from the old NCAA Football PS2 days where you had 10 total hours to recruit and had to ration it over several players.

You really think he doesn't care about 8.33% of the season?

Nope. He prefers to lose to prove a point about how little we care about that game.

Next year he may show up with a 6 pack and lawn chair. Thinking about just throwing Ames High out there in our place.

You really think he doesn't care about 8.33% of the season?

Maybe it's easier for you guys to understand it this way since a couple of you are hung up on the not caring thing. Campbell doesn't emphasize the in state rivalry game. Ferentz does. That's the difference

I can see this approach in a non-football sport. In, say, basketball I can see one game mattering more than others. You have 30+ games to make your season. In football there is 12 games. Every loss is a big loss. Every win is a big win. I just refuse to believe that they "dont care about", and even if they did, I don't know what "not caring" looks like.

I don't think the "they don't care" should be attributed to any game. The concept of the leapfrogging is, a team like ISU or Iowa should be about to beat the LA-Monroes and UNIs on pure talent alone. It is kind of a job security maneuver at the beginning also. Campbell doesn't have the incentives that Kirk does/did. Kirk had incentives for a bowl game (basically 6 wins), a winning record (7 wins), and an 8 win season (obviously 8 wins). You win 7.5 games a season (where kirk is over his career) at a place like Iowa or ISU and they will reward you. Job security and incentive security.

That's how I can see some coaches putting extra emphasis on some over others. Campbells are set more for conference achievements. If you have a chance to make a 10-20%, or even 25-35%, for detailing in harder on 75% of your job, you probably will

So Campbell is purposefully sandbagging the Iowa game to keep expectations low?

JON:

As we look at the 2020 season here, how big is the Iowa- Iowa State game for you guys as a staff?

COACH CAMPBELL:

Well, I think the the biggest thing I would say is obviously, you know, what that game means and obviously coming into this state and building our own program. I think you certainly understand the importance for both universities for both fan bases.

Lol oh God what's he supposed to say when asked that question?

Ferentz literally said without being asked that beating Iowa State was bigger than beating Ohio State. That's the difference

So Campbell says that it is important to both fan bases......shocked I tell you, I'm shocked.

Honestly, you didn't think it was important for both fan bases or what was your point on the red underlined sentence?

Your white flag is getting tons of use today. Thank you for admitting you are wrong. Have a good day.

...and you think Kirk is doing the inverse of this? He's recruiting and scheming just to beat Iowa State? That's idiotic.

It matters to Campbell. It matters to Kirk. It matters to Clonefan32. It matters to Twins, who is the most Iowa obsessed Iowa State fan there is.

He's spent literally years on here, all day every day, saying ISU doesn't care about the Iowa game.

Why can't you think about him and his needs?

Genuinely you can't figure out the point? Come on. Be better than tryharder

You really believe Campbell emphasizes the in state rivalry game like Ferentz does?
What I believe is that you've convinced yourself of this to help you cope. I believe that in your mind this is reality. Most everyone else on both sides thinks differently than you.

“I think that’s, for us, where we want to get our football program to — and that’s why you love playing that game every year — because I think it’s a great measuring stick to where you are in your program,” Campbell said.

"Iowa State coach Matt Campbell’s refusal to refer to Iowa by name publicly as part of the CyHawk rivalry."

"The university as a whole as gotten in on the act.In announcing a clear-bag policy at home events, ISU athletic director Jamie Pollard noted that ”our state rival in Iowa City” also had the policy. ISU’s official school marketing and branding website directs that “colors associated with other public institutions, such as the one on the eastern side of the state, should not be used” when representing ISU."

"I was curious, though, how far Campbell would go in this bit. So, after his press conference Tuesday, I pulled him off to the side and asked a direct, hard-hitting question.

“Who do you play on Saturday?”

Campbell looked at me sideways, smiled and then let out a small laugh before he answered.

A rival."
