Did we not just make the tournament 6-7 times in the last decade? Why do we have to default back to the expectations of the 70s just because we're bad again? Why can't that be what our normal is now?Like I said, I don't care if they fire Prohm, I can make the case for or against it. Just try to have a little perspective of what the ISU program and job really are.

The post I replied to literally said people's expectations were too high based on stuff that happen 20 years ago or longer and said expectations should be lower because of that. If you're going to start doing that not reading crap again you're going back on my block list. I'm not doing this dumb **** with you againCan you cite a post where people actually said they have no expectations? Not a projection, but an actual post.
thanks in advance.
Isnt there 10 times in a decade?Did we not just make the tournament 6-7 times in the last decade? Why do we have to default back to the expectations of the 70s just because we're bad again? Why can't that be what our normal is now?
The Fizer/Tinsley team was the best. Those other teams were good but didn't have the depth and the ability to be as 'multiple' to be able to play against any kind of team. That Drake loss is still really baffling though. 44 points?
LE caught lightning in a bottle for that group but I also don't recall him having to talk over and over about how tough and mean his team needed to be; it was just what was expected. They didn't just beat UCLA in the Sweet 16, they embarrassed them.
That said if you watch a game from 2011-2017 compared to now, the general talent difference and talent working together is pretty stark.
Meeting half and the half that's missing like this year is pretty bad. Even despite his faults, I was expecting at least not historical lows.
Dayton's doing what I described. Went to the tourney many times recently, had one bad year with the new coach, and has ascended into what is now a nice team.
Tech might be a better example as they might be looking at missing the tourney now, but they're still at least close despite starting over and competitive.
JFC sorry he didn't file his official stats that matter application with you in advance. 20pt losses suck and paint a damning picture of where this program is headed.Really? The most losses at home by 20 or more? What about losses at home by 15 or 21 or 25 or 19 with a full moon? It is not a commonly used and recognized stat. Come on.
This is a standard team stat line from Sports Reference for the 18-19 Clones:

Until Jamie Pollard got to ISU, ISU never had the facilities or the budget in any sport to legitimately compete in any sport. You people that bring up the historic records or say people need to look at perspective, the times have changed since then. ISU now has the budget and facilities to compete in both football and basketball, and the expectations should be raised, especially in basketball with the coach we have who inherited a top 10 team and a program that had gained national recognition over the 3-4 years before he arrived. That coach has now set all time record lows for the program in multiple categories. There is no reason for it with what ISU has now for facilities and budget.Actually it said have perspective on the reality of Iowa State basketball. There was not one mention of lowering expectations. so that was just another projected argument.
so where are people saying to lower expectations? There’s a big difference between pointing out the truth about the history of Iowa State basketball, and saying we should be ok with losing.
People seem to act like a magical season 20 years ago is the norm, and that Fred’s one sweet 16 was commonplace. He had a great run here. Did a great job. But that stretch wasn’t consistent with the history of the program.
What’s happening now, is by no means acceptable. It just isn’t, he’s more than likely get another year, and if he doesn’t turn it around, he won’t be the coach the following year.
"Unfounded Expectations"
It wasn't that long ago we had hit two 3 seeds, a 4, a 5, and a 6 and

I think pretty much everyone is in agreement with you on this. Our expectations have risen because the quality of Iowa State basketball rose exponentially once Fred Hoiberg became the coach here. He set a standard where these types of seasons were not going to happen under his watch. When his talent left, he seemed to already have a plan for the next year and even the following. Prohm has had a tough time figuring out how to do the same. When the talent was here, he was able to keep his head above water. Sure we weren't amazing but 3 out of his 5 years we have been very solid. Even last year's team who underachieved at times was good enough to beat anyone on a nightly basis.Until Jamie Pollard got to ISU, ISU never had the facilities or the budget in any sport to legitimately compete in any sport. No. Did I say they were? No. There’s only a handful of blue bloods. ISU in basketball anyway, has top 25 facilities. What’s become of the program should be inexcusable.you think our facilities and budget are on par with the blueblood programs?
What has it become? Is this year a sign of future ineptitude under Prohm, or just an abbreviation? No. Did I say they were? No. There’s only a handful of blue bloods. ISU in basketball anyway, has top 25 facilities. What’s become of the program should be inexcusable.
Besides money, what’s the argument for keeping Prohm?
Mine would be that Prohm with great assistants can consistently win here. Nearly anyone with good assistants can win here!
Then there seems to be extremists like Cat Stevens and Maloney that feel the ISU program isn’t of the quality to likely attract a better coach. If true, that would be worthy of giving Prohm time to correct things. Personally, I find that to be grasping for anything to sidestep how mediocre of coaching we’ve received under Prohm, but to each their own! Maybe WAYNE MORGAN is tired of selling cable?

We're not a blue blood and we'll never be. The people wishing we could be one are not being fair to themselves. It is fair to hold ourselves to a standard below the blue bloods though, because that's where we were when Hoiberg left. We were good enough to win against those teams, just not on a consistent basis. We had some damn good teams, but never great teams. We were probably on the cusp of something amazing but that was ripped away from our grasps.you think our facilities and budget are on par with the blueblood programs?

The fans who think we should be better than when Fred was here or directly at the same level are also hurting themselves too. Fred was one of, if not the best Iowa State coach in the history of the program, so comparing Steve to him is something we shouldn't be doing either. What we should be doing is looking at what Steve has done, and what he's done at a whole has been probably on the average side when all things are considered. He came into an incredible core group of guys but because of the timing of everything, he wasn't able to build his first team into more than a Sweet 16 type. I think he had a solid year his second year. He brought in some guys that were able to almost perfectly fit with the talent he already had. His third year he whiffed on grad transfers, which was primarily the reason why that team sucked. Last year was certainly above average, but still a bit disappointing overall. Last season's disappointed probably would've flown under the radar had this year been solid, but it hasn't been at all. Two freshman left and had those spots been filled with transfers or capable freshman who hadn't left, the season might've looked differently. He wasn't ready for guys to leave and failed miserably at trying to fill the void.
Next year Steve HAS to go all in. He needs to do anything and everything in his power to get this team to play at a high level, because if he doesn't, he's likely gone.
