The Fran fade

Sorry........that you've had such a horrible year that all you're left with is to hope the Hawks fail.
That's been how it's worked for most years for Iowa fans though.. The most joy some Iowa fans had was watching Iowa State fail.. I mean even last year after a Hawk loss Bohannon tweeted about Iowa State losing, so we're constantly in his mind.

A huge problem for us this year is that we really don't have anyone that can cause matchup problems. Our offense has been predicated on spacing the floor, making something happen, and knocking down the open shot. With smaller guards, there's not much else you can do besides trying to run them off screens, set ball screens, etc. Neither Prentiss or Jackson can finish well at the rim, so having them attack the basket isn't exactly the best thing for them. We were going to have to rely on our shooting ability this year and that's something that was not very good.

This problem should be solved next year with the length and athleticism we're bringing in. Steve's going to have a lot more tools to work with on the offensive end.

Yes I agree and I'll add that strategy depends on the talent / skills of the player; get them in 1-on-1 isolation and free lance to get a shot off vs an offensive strategy that depends on motion / curl screens / off-ball movement, etc, to get a man open.

Yeah I think there are a couple reasons why that sort of thing is tough for us.. Teams know who we are at what we have to do to win games, which is shoot it well from beyond the arc.

Before Tyrese got hurt, we'd run Tyrese off tons of different screens (curls, flairs, etc) and then let him play off of it with the screen man. I think sometimes we did fall too much in love with that and at the time Tyrese was playing guys weren't shooting the ball well either, so it wasn't effective at times. With the guys we have though, I wouldn't want them running a ton of those types of screens because I don't want them getting the ball where the trees are and shooting floaters all day long because they can't finish at the rim.

It also didn't help this year that we were playing half of our conference games against some of the best defenses in the entire country. KU, BU, and WVU are all in the top 4, TTU is #11, and OU is #25. Those teams can flat out guard.

Why are there so many here saying they get the play in game?
Maybe they're making fun of Iowa? Idk. I think it's literally impossible for Iowa to get a play in game.. They're for 11 and 16 seeds right? I don't think there's any way Iowa's getting an 11 seed.

Every post game one of the Iowa players seems to blame refs. At some point the staff should tell them to shut it and say no comment but that's hard to do when the coach believes refs are cheating mother ******* and a ******* disgrace.

I've said it before, there's deep-seated "God's gift to basketball" in all of them.

At that point, Tyrese was so obviously the focal point that teams could just center the defenses around him, and our other guys weren't quite ready to take the heat off him. Now that we've been without Tyrese for a bit, those guys have had no choice but to step up. It would have been interesting to see how that developed in the second half of the Big 12 with a healthy Tyrese. I think we'd probably be looking at 8-10 or so.

Fran is the leader in this space. They are only echoing what Fran and Margaret are coaching them to do.

It has? You would be OK with him shooting 8 threes last night
I'd prefer he stick to his average of about 3 per game. Only 1 or 2 of those 3's he took I would call a bad shot. I like how you are still bashing Connor for his 3 point shooting when he shoots 32.6%, but yet you have no issue with Bolton shooting far more 3's at a 33.6% clip.

I don't know how the season would've played out if Tyrese were still playing.. Who knows if our young guys would've stepped up the way that they have now that the pressure is on them. If they would've stepped up, this team is probably looked at 3 more wins than they currently have. Who knows, maybe they would've figured it out and gotten another and we'd be an NIT team, but losing him hurt us tremendously on offense, and even worse on defense.

The fix was obviously in last night. The Big Ten wants 9 teams in the dance. Really,. I agree with you that players need to not talk about officiating, but it's only been 2 games now that I recall. Joe was obviously frustrated last night. There were a few times when it appeared he had his guy boxed out and kind of got pushed under the basket. They finally called one "hook and hold" with a few minutes left in the game. Purdue had like 19 offensive rebounds which hasn't happened to Iowa this year.

We have little talent, it's not the cards not falling right, the cards fell clear off the table.

Be better than this.

Joe was driving into the lane aimlessly. He wasn't being fouled.

The refs had zero bearing on the outcome of last night's game. Painter had a great plan defensively and Iowa's non-Garzas didn't show up.

You're OK with him taking 8 contested 3 point shots in one game? I'm surprised you're OK with him taking even 3 of them
