Waukee Northwest HS

I know very little about everything else you posted, but best athletics is a stretch. Maybe back in the day but besides girls basketball, very few championships in other sports in the last decade

They are in the Top 3 of the all sports rankings every year. Pre-Waukee they were consistently good at every sport for a longer period than any other school. Now Waukee has jumped them but that’s all gone in two years and Valley will be back on top again.

Valley is generally one of the best schools in sports but you are vastly overrating it. It’s one of the last schools if want to send my kids to.

It’s like a small university, their academic offerings are unparalleled in Iowa.
It is a high school though. It shouldn’t be striving to be a university.

Getting to participate in sports and extracurricular activities is part of what high school is about. Being able to interact and know your classmates is also important.

I was a gifted student and had all the opportunities I wanted for classes at Urbandale. I also had opportunities to grow as a person too. Schools like Valley are just to big IMO that you don’t get the well rounded education you need.

Actually according to a web site that uses the latest Department of Education report, college entrance exam results and parent reviews, Valley is the 6th highest rated Des Moines metro school. Johnston is #1 followed by Ankeny, Waukee, Dallas Center Grimes, and North Polk.

Academic offerings are a sales pitch. Give me a school that focuses on the basics of education and keep the fluff for college.

Agree. I think this is mostly in the self-inflated minds of West Des Moines residents. I'd never send my kid there with that many students.
