Waukee Northwest HS

Probably should've done this:

i never understand this. I like the simple directional nomenclature. West, North, Central, etc. The random names like “Centennial”, “Prairie”, etc are for elementary schools.

I think Centennial is cool. It's like a brand. It's not associated with Ankeny's first high-school. Directional school is just boring and sounds boring to me. If you're going to do that,. Waukee West rolls off the tongue better anyways.

Waukee West will be located somewhere near the Vision Soccer Academy complex in the year 2028 probably :D

For a long time during the planning process, it looked like Ankeny's two high schools would be Ankeny North and Ankeny South. But there was an idea for honoring the 100th anniversary of Ankeny Schools, thus the idea of Centennial was born.

Eventually, the names were put to a vote - North & South vs Ankeny High & Centennial. Students and Parents were pretty evenly split, but Alumni were overwhelmingly in favor of the Centennial option because they wouldn't lose the high school name that they graduated from.

I've often wondered what would have happened had there been an option of Ankeny High & Ankeny North. I did notice that Waukee never seemed to seriously entertain the idea of renaming the current Waukee High to something else.

I know it's a DSM location but I have always connotated Saydel as "Ankeny South."

Is the same **** storm over who goes where coming to Waukee that hit Ankeny when it split?

I don’t see it the makeup of the Waukee district is totally different than Ankeny as they pull from all of the western burbs.

*waiting for this to turn into "best high school mascots" thread again*

IM in. I went to Lincoln and I think we have one of the most unique nicknames around. The Railsplitters. Some of the worst

Dowling Maroons- Congrats on knowing what color you are
WHomever the Gohawks are. Can't remember which high school. Not even sure what a "gohawk" is. The only think I know about a Gohawk is when Hawkeye fans have "Go Hawk" Tourette syndrome.
