Waukee Northwest HS

Is the same **** storm over who goes where coming to Waukee that hit Ankeny when it split?

The boundaries for the two high schools will be bizzare. Prairieview (right next to Waukee HS) will feed into Northwest while Timberline will continue to feed into Waukee HS.

Plus, the neighborhoods Immediately surrounding Waukee HS will be part of Northwest as well.

I don't know if they're gerrymandering these, or if that's what they did with Ankeny schools, but all of a sudden Ankeny started to suck and Centennial is a perennial power.

The available talent pool shrinks any time you split a district, but it should rebound the more the population surrounding both high schools grows.

Not that I've monitored it too closely but I think the boundaries have always been split more or less along 1st St., running a bit north in some places and south in others. So I don't understand what the complaints would be. Given that a big chunk of the school board got voted out for whatever reason back then, it's probably just resistance to change.

I remember a lot of talk at the time of the split that Centennial would be the better athletic school, but I figured that would even out over time, especially once the Prairie Trail area matured. I don't think it has even out yet but it's not like Ankeny HS is bad.

Northwest Wolves doesn't really roll off the tongue well. It's like the Plano West Wolves. Or New Orleans Pelicans. I don't know. Just doesn't sound right.

Miners would've been a cool name.

IM in. I went to Lincoln and I think we have one of the most unique nicknames around. The Railsplitters. Some of the worst

Dowling Maroons- Congrats on knowing what color you are
WHomever the Gohawks are. Can't remember which high school. Not even sure what a "gohawk" is. The only think I know about a Gohawk is when Hawkeye fans have "Go Hawk" Tourette syndrome.
Yes! Forgot about the Railspitters lol. Illinois has some very interesting mascots around the state. I'm sure I could look some up to get the best names, but the best names of the schools I competed against are

Freeport Pretzels
Argo Argonauts
Zion Betton Zee-Bee's
Polo Marco's

Ironically, 3 of these 4 we played in the same holiday tournament every year because they were all located near each other

Minus the Pretzels. The other three make total sense and are awesome. I hate standard nicknames like the Wolves or some random animal. The minors like some have said would have been a great nickname for the New Waukee school.

Also just randomly another nickname style that I like is the “49ers”. So for Waukee NW they could have been the “78ers” for the year Waukee was founded (1878).

Well since they are in high school they are probably nearly all minors but I think miners is more what they had in mind.

Just an FYI... the final vote was down to the Knights, Wolfpack, or Wolves for mascots. And Carolina blue vs royal blue for primary color. Secondary colors silver, black, and white were already decided.
