When did I ever say Sargent and Goodson are better than Eisworth? Eisworth is a stud. People were talking about dudes getting flattened, I just thought I’d point out a few more.
The last three weeks this forum has been full of Iowa State fans (inaccurately) talking about how poorly Epenesa has played.
I'm just pointing out to everyone that looking at one play where someone might not have done great doesn't encompass how good a player is. Just like looking at one game doesn't encompass how good a player is either. Epenesa is a good player and will most likely be a high first round draft pick. He's going to get a ton of attention this year by opposing teams and it's up to the rest of the d-line to take advantage of that.
He was impressive Saturday night outside of a few plays, but hard to play a perfect game.
You're hopeless here. How in the world can you say he 'beat' him when he didn't make plays? Hurries, sacks, and TFLs are the stats of 'getting beat.'
Don't this confused with me saying he had a poor game or is a bad player. I will say he isn't as good as some here want to believe, nor as bad...
I don't see anything wrong with what he said honestly. AJ did beat JGJ some of time but it was never enough time to get to Brock, and that's exactly what you're suppose to do as an offensive lineman. JGJ gave Purdy just enough time to make his throws.
Go back and watch. He beat the LT at least five times really quick, but because of the play design and Purdy's quick reads and throws couldn't get to him. He did have some hurries including the one on third and goal that resulted in quick and bad pass by Purdy.
Can't really say he got 'beat' if the stats of TFL, hurries, and sacks say otherwise.
Remember that scene from Moneyball where the scouts are raving about some prospect and Billy Beane’s just sitting there saying the guy can’t hit?
I couldn’t remember exactly that’s why I was so vague in the description. But the point still stands.
I believe Epenesa did get a few hurries, as someone brought up, but you could see JGJ had his hands full but did a great job. Julian did not give up one sack to one of the best defensive ends in the nation. Iowa State has had their problems with the offensive line, but they did extremely well in that category this past Saturday.
The last three weeks, Iowa fans have been assuring us all that Epenesa is a lock 1st round pick, so expectations were high. Right now thought, he is playing like an average Big 10 DE.
