Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

Yep. That's what ISU did with Sexton and ended up getting Wigginton. Drake was the first school to go after Zion Griffin and even got the first visit, should they have still recruited him after ISU and Kansas got involved? It's common sense

Twins, Fran may be saying, "What if he doesn't clear right away and other schools back off and we are all that is left". One day, he may just get one!!!

You couldn’t even pull that off with an instate riser like Carton. How are you going to do it with an out of state, out of the gate 5 star (and not just a 5 star possibly THE five star).

I wouldnt call Iowa one of the first teams in on Carton. Iowa wasnt even his first B1G offer.

I don’t think Iowa actually has a realistic chance to get Suggs. However, I have seen interviews with Suggs where he has brought up Iowa as one of the schools recruiting him the hardest, one of the schools he is most interested in, etc. Ultimately he is probably going to end up at a blue blood, but Iowa probably has at least as good (if not better) of a chance than any team listed in that article.
I hope they are in it until the bitter end.

Did you think it was nuts when Prohm backed off on Sexton?
No, but of course these are different circumstances. Prohm most likely backed off Sexton when he knew (or was told...) Sexton wasn't interested in ISU. Suggs clearly has some interest in Iowa...

Apples to oranges...

So Iowa wasn’t one of the first teams in on Carton? How does that happen?

That's not how it went down. Sexton was thinking about visiting ISU actually. Prohm knew he needed to land a great PG and the odds with Sexton were low so went all in on more realistic options

Well, then he took a calculated risk on another 5 star PG that was interested...

Still a different scenario by a long shot.

ISU had a better shot of landing Sexton than Iowa has in landing Suggs and they still backed off to take a more realistic option
Agreed, but I don't think Fran needs to back off just yet. Prohm backed off in the final, what, 6 months? Suggs is still a 2020, and plenty of time to realize its no longer an option.

I am also biased because I love Fran recruiting 5 stars.

Oh I hope Fran keeps recruiting Suggs hard. This is how he ends up with fallback options nobody wants because his recruiting strategy is the most mind boggling I've seen in college basketball

So you are nuts. This isn't that hard. Suggs has shown interest in Iowa, both programs. Fran would be crazy NOT to recruit him...

Fran is crazy to recruit someone hard he has no chance of getting. Agree to disagree. I was happy when we moved on from Sexton too even though there was rumors he was going to visit and see Monte because I knew we weren't getting him either
