Wigginton declaring for NBA Draft, not hiring agent

Thanks for posting this, it basically says what most say wrt Lindell - he should return. However, the Lindell write-up wasn't the best - it says we had "several" sit-out transfers that could make the difference for next year. I don't think 2 qualifies as "several", plus I really doubt that the two sit-out transfers will have a huge impact next year - the incoming freshman class is much more important in my view. I think adding Shayok should have a significant positive impact, but I'm not convinced that Jacobsen really will. JMO

We were without Babb and Solo a good part of the Conference season too.

We had two guy available for every game last season.

= Wigginton and Beverly

Jackson missed a game because of the death of his father. :(

NWB was injured.

Lard was suspended a few games.

Young was injured.

Talley was injured.

Brase was never really right, as far as I could tell, except maybe in December.

Lewis was suspended to start the season.

Long had the concussion.

It was a rough year on the attrition front for a roster that was already under-manned.

Good, deep teams would have struggled with the above, never mind ours, which maybe ends up in the middle of a P6 conference/bubble team if everything goes well.

pretty much the 2 minute discussion I had with SP at the tailgate tour, but he was still focusing on the positive things that happened.

I think I've said it before, but last basketball season was a fantastic learning opportunity for all directly involved in the program. Hopefully good things in the future come out of it.

Jacobson will have a significant impact, and a significant upgrade over Beverly. Jacobson averaged more than 6 rebounds at Nebraska as a sophomore. He should be much improved with another year of lifting weights and working on his shot, which appears to extend to 3-pt range according to the staff.

It was not like last season was all bad. To go through some green shoots...

-- Wigginton has CPOTY potential

-- Lard is an absolute diamond in the rough, and if he develops some consistency and learns how to defend without fouling, then he is going to be awesome

-- I like the twister on the uniforms

-- NWB emerged as an above-average PG

-- won our Myrtle Beach tournament, beat a good Boise State team

-- teased us we might fight into the middle of the pack in the Big 12/onto the bubble with how the team was playing in late December and early January

I really thought we had something there for a few weeks. We might have if we stayed healthy.

-- lost a lot of close games a more experienced team might close out

-- beat four good/ranked/tournament teams (WVU, BU, OU, and TTU)

-- beat Iowa and UNI... state champs baby!

-- gave KU way more than they should have in Lawrence

-- Talley looks to be a versatile wing for next year

-- I thought team chemistry looked suspect at the start of the year, but I think they bonded towards the end, especially over Donovan's loss

-- Lewis found his stroke at the end of the year

-- great recruiting class coming into the program

...so the season was not a total loss. Plenty of good things happen, too. :)

To the poster that said the transfers won’t have much impact? Not sure what team u have been following..Shayok has all conf potential and will start day 1. Jacobsen isnt a Beverly replacement either..he’s a Brase replacement and a far far better one at that. Jacobsen has P5 exp and is an animal on the boards. If he has any 3pt shot then this teams depth will be that much better. A lot of talent for Prohm to mold next year.

Yes. Thank you for posting this.

Roundly kicking the a$$es of a Sweet 16 and an Elite 8 team at home was pretty cool. I honestly think we would have been at least .500 if we played in any other conference.

I posted this in the Tailgate Tour thread but thought I should share it in here too.

Prohm was asked for an update on Lindell:

Prohm talked to Lindell and his dad last night. Three workouts to go then going back to Canada. Decision coming 29th before deadline of 30th. 50/50 right now.

47 players were not invited to the combine in the last 2 years that stayed in the draft.

0 were drafted.

I'm typically not into telling people what they should do... but he should absolutely not expect to get drafted this season.

Yeah, I hope he isn’t getting bad info.
Would hate to see him declare this year and go undrafted and make a home in the G-League or overseas. Especially with his chances of being drafted next year much more likely.

I think alot of times players just tell reporters what they think the fans want to hear...so when he said that about going in 1st round or he was coming back to iowa state i took it with a grain of salt

Not being drafted should trump those reasons.

Maybe he thinks he has his best chance to get a two way deal this year. Maybe there is a team that really likes him. He has a ton to prove by coming back but he also shot 40% from 3 as a freshman and will probably go down next year and he'll be a year older. I expect him to come back but two way deals complicate things IMO
