Wigginton declaring for NBA Draft, not hiring agent

Let me just say first and foremost that I love LW and think he is a great player.

However, to be fair, he is a point guard who loses the ball too often and commits too many turnovers. An NBA team might take a chance on him now, but if he wants to be successful at the next level in the long run he definitely needs to come back and work on his handles and decision making at the PG spot.

I agree he has things to work on, but just to play devil's advocate, what's to stop him from deciding to work on those things while getting paid on an NBA bench or in the G League?

Because I think it is easier to stick on a team as a first rounder than to move from G League to a team's NBA roster.

The allure of a guaranteed contract if he is a 1st rounder. If he isnt basically a guaranteed 1st rounder, he should come back to school. A little more polish and I think he gets into the '19 1st round.

I think Wigginton will get some good feedback to see what NBA scouts want him to focus on and will be back for one more season. He is crazy skilled but takes too many hero ball shots and needs to show more PG skills in creating for teammates.

I agree but to be fair to him he didn't have much help around him by the end of the year

It was an all year problem, not just an end of year problem. He will get better. If his biggest problem is being too aggressive then he is doing great. Just needs a little better decision making. Overall he is a fantastic player who will likely be 1st team All Big 12 next year.

His advanced stats were actually pretty strong/efficient until Babb went out. The last 9 games of the year he had 30 assists and 41 (!!!) turnovers and only one game shooting about 50% from the field

His PER was bad even before NWB went out.

Well yeah his advanced defensive stats were awful all year long. We couldn't guard anyone
His efficiency on offense was poor prior to NWB being out, too. His effective FG% was poor, despite shooting well on 3Ps. A lot of dribbling to get tough 2P FG attempts kills an offense.

As good as he was for a freshman, he struggled in the best player role.

No it wasn't

His advanced offensive stats weren't poor before Babb went out. His PPG went up after Babb went out actually but his efficiency went down
You must have a generous grading scale otherwise his PER, effective FG%, and offensive rating were are bad for his usage before Babb went out. Certainly not “pretty strong/efficient”.

This just feels to me like he is going to stay in the draft, not sure why, but it does. If he goes to the combine he's going to put up ridiculous numbers athletically, and shoots 40% from 3.

He won’t shoot 40% from 3 at the combine..It is NBA range 3 btw. Big difference. His measurable and athleticism at the combine will be evident..and maybe he ends up on some boards after the combine but he wont be a 1st rounder this year no matter what he does. He does however have a shot at being a 2019 first rounder with improved ball handling and decision making.

You get one shot at college...I’m pulling for LW and of course as an ISU fan i want him to come back but i also see a 6’2 {PG at next level who if he declares and stays in draft might go late 2nd round and be thrown in G league for 1-2 years and then he either makes the league or is playing in Slovakia for 10 years. At least if he can improve enough this off season and next season at ISU to be on 1st rd boards in 2019 with a real shot at a 3 year guaranteed contract taht could set him up for a very long time.

Easy - does he want to make $75k per year as a two-way G-League player or guaranteed millions by being selected in the first round?

I haven't seen him listed in any draft boards let alone in the first round. That said, I'd always tell a player that has a first round guarantee to go and get his money.

Be patient, every day there are more and more prospects declaring for the Draft that will rate above him in potential going into the process. If the feed back is very positive then good for him and I wish him well.

No reason to stress until Lindell first gets the combine invite, not a given, and then needs will need to impress from there. Prohm fully expects him back at this point, and I think Lindell knows he has some improvements he can make. That is why he his going through this process after all.
