*** Official Nebraska vs Iowa State “secret” scrimmage thread ***

Here's the thing about this team - I wouldn't be shocked if we have a OU esque meltdown year like they did after Buddy graduated. I also wouldn't be surprised to see us be a bubble team. I think a hard stance either way is going to be a tough sell for me.

OU did kind of meltdown, but they really weren't a bad team. If you trust kenpom, they were a better team than 6 teams in the B1G and 4 in the ACC. And they were even better than that when Woodard was healthy.

Agree.

Also, was our 2010-11 a bad team? They weren’t good, butwe lost a lot of close games.

People better get used to turnovers again. With Monte gone our TO numbers are going to be way up.

They're going to go up no doubt, but I don't think it's going to be a team weakness, just not the strength it used to be. I think Prohm's offensive schemes kind of limit turnovers by themselves. because the ball stays in the hands of your best ball handlers most of the time. There isn't much wasted effort on offense.

I'm not too worried about it. Lots of new faces plus some guys expected to contribute didn't play. Prohm will figure things out. Sounds like they got out healthy, which is really all that matters with the secret scrimmages.

Lard being a rim protector would ease a lot of the other problems this team is going to have. And it sounds like everyone can run the floor. Transition points will be a big deal this year while they find their scorers.

Gotta be excited about Lard. I can see his role expanding as the year goes on like it did for S Young. Going to be some bumps along the away but I expect this team to be competitive the whole year.

I was expecting him to show some rebounding and defending abilities. What I wasn’t sure about is his offensive game at this point so it’s exciting to see him put up 13 points in 18 minutes

If he is really active rebounding and makes himself available for driving guards, he could definitely pick up some points consistently.

Count me among the very few that doesn’t think we are going to have a huge drop off... I’m going to get flamed but I think people over value last years senior class because we liked them so much. This will be a better team imo.

I added the first heart rating to this post to complete the full set, what does he win?

This is my range as well. I'm looking forward to the season regardless, because catching glimpses of what we can expect in the future from Wigginton, Lard, Lewis, Talley is still exciting.

I'm confident that after our freshmen have a full year, plus the additions of Shayok and Jacobson, we can get back to being a top 5 B12 team going forward.

If this year is a rebuilding year, it's not the end of the world.

Agreed. Future is incredibly bright. If this year does end up being a rebuilding year, the light at the end of the tunnel is REALLY bright.

I don’t remember a year in which there’s so little to be sure about.

Watching Lard in the very brief glimpses we’ve had, he looked to have potential on offense with a good shot and fluid movements. At the very least he should be able to get McKay type buckets.

We make up things to worry about. Post Kane & Ejim it was, "Could Monte run a team?" :)
He could.

I think we need Talley or NWB to play close to Clyburn level 15 & 7 (or combine for close to it) this year for us to be good. I don't think that will happen, which will leave us as a bubble/NIT team. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

If we had added a Kane transfer this offseason and returned two All-Big 12 caliber players I’d feel better right now. Speaking of that team, it was apparent right away that they were good.

I think it’s likely it takes us too long to become a good team, at least in regards to making the tournament.

What the heck is a Kane transfer? We have three grad transfers to be exact and we know about as much about them as we did Kane. Except they probably shot better than Kane’s 20 sum percent from three.. you just never know
