All our good neighbors have moved so I have no one on the block to ask. I was coming home today and was stopped by the realtor of the new neighbors moving in. She said they were out of country for a month, so if we saw anything suspicious going on to let her know. The new neighbors are both professors/associate professors in the College of Business.

Thanks, but I could be in more trouble if I told the wife I can't go because I need to water some other woman's flower. ;)

I finished with "C ..... as.......in....... char....lie" Then he got upset because I wasn't supposed to type the "as in charlie" part. LOL

Outboards. I got two vintage ones to sell. From my dad's stuff. Spent some time this afternoon reassembling one of them (and with no leftover parts!). Craigslist time, 1955 Johnson Seahorse and a 1948-49 Goodyear. You know you want one!

So there was a write up in the Ames Trib about one of our softball games this week. The headline was "South Hamilton tops Tigers in battle of young teams". Then no mention of how young the teams are. South Hamilton roster is 5 seniors, 4 juniors, 4 sophomores and no freshmen or 8th graders. Our roster is 1 senior, 1 junior, 4 sophomores, 5 freshmen, and 8 8th graders. Starting line up is the 2 upper classmen, 3 or 4 sophomores depending on who is pitching, 1 freshman, and 3 or 4 8th graders. It has been a tough season with many 10 run ruled games, but we also play many ranked teams. The girls picked up their 2nd win yesterday. Both have been non-conference and with an 8th grade battery.

Yesterday was the first good practice (no games that night) for our sb team. Coaches did some competitive drills. One interesting thing happened. JV team beat the varsity in nearly every competition. A few of the older girls over the last week started saying after games that they thought their JV would beat them. I have noticed that the varsity parents section is sticking around for JV games more and more ( we play varsity first), and watching the JV play. JV has the more consistent pitchers, have better bat contact (strikeouts are rare) and the infield is neck and neck. The varsity has a better outfield (neither can catch anything, but varsity stays behind most balls while JV outfielders let everything get past them or fall down). So far the coaches have fulfilled my request to let the 8th graders (6 or 7 ) stay JV and not get involved in the dumpster fire.

Are the young girls on your team keeping from getting beaten down? That was my concern, the varsity has been bad for long enough that those girls are negative. The freshman class parents are more concerned about their kids being varsity than anything else and are in the coaches face all the time, whereas the 8th parents are concerned about the kid enjoying it and developing. Two totally different groups.

Maybe it should have said "team" instead of "teams"
 
So, after a week of eating, I can once again say that working out is much more fun when you're fed. Nutrition, like, matters.

Oh, and bought new running shoes last night. Their first moment to shine might just be tonight! (and if not, then it's tomorrow for sure)
