Random Thoughts X (The 9th Regeneration)

Yesterday was the first good practice (no games that night) for our sb team. Coaches did some competitive drills. One interesting thing happened. JV team beat the varsity in nearly every competition. A few of the older girls over the last week started saying after games that they thought their JV would beat them. I have noticed that the varsity parents section is sticking around for JV games more and more ( we play varsity first), and watching the JV play. JV has the more consistent pitchers, have better bat contact (strikeouts are rare) and the infield is neck and neck. The varsity has a better outfield (neither can catch anything, but varsity stays behind most balls while JV outfielders let everything get past them or fall down). So far the coaches have fulfilled my request to let the 8th graders (6 or 7 ) stay JV and not get involved in the dumpster fire.

Are the young girls on your team keeping from getting beaten down? That was my concern, the varsity has been bad for long enough that those girls are negative. The freshman class parents are more concerned about their kids being varsity than anything else and are in the coaches face all the time, whereas the 8th parents are concerned about the kid enjoying it and developing. Two totally different groups.

Our JV has done pretty well this year, although we have had to cancel 4 JV games. Three were while some of the girls were in DC and they would not have been able to field much of a team. But we literally could not field 2 separate JV and varsity teams without both of them looking like the Bad News Bears. Some of the parents who have been around since their girls played up in 8th grade 3 yrs ago have decided to quit complaining and try to change the culture. They helped Coach the spring league team, they help groom the field between gamed, try to keep morale up. It is an uphill battle on attitude, but that was a concern going in. Fortunately ours does not like the loser attitude, so she really tries to keep girls up. There is another classmate of her who is hard on herself, and daughter says it is because her dad rides her hard. We try not to be "those" parents.

So, after a week of eating, I can once again say that working out is much more fun when you're fed. Nutrition, like, matters.

Oh, and bought new running shoes last night. Their first moment to shine might just be tonight! (and if not, then it's tomorrow for sure)

Post reminds me that I haven't had anything to eat in 16 hours. Maybe should have something more then coffee today?

Cancels home line and joins 21st century.

Took four calls to get past the ******* robots on the phone and get to an actual person who, BTW, was quite courteous once I got to that actual human being. The robots do not respond to "operator", "assistance", "cancel service" , "Let me speak to a real person!" or "**** you robot I am going to hunt you down and rip your ******* synthetic vocal circuits from your motherboard!!"

This is from the New York Post so you have to take it with a grain of salt. There is some sort of group of crazy people that are "breatharians" and claim they live by pretty much just breathing. They get their energy from the universe's energy.

Yeah, okay. Then why do so many people die of starvation on the planet every day and have since the beginning of mankind?

It's crap like this that pisses me off. Someone somewhere will take this seriously. We are dealing with a measles epidemic in the Somali community up here because, you know anti-vaxers.

They must not be breathing the right air.

I think the issue with anti-vaxers is they and maybe their parents never had to deal with measles, mumps and/or chicken pox like us old people. When I was a kid I knew a person or two that had polio so you saw what could happen so you were glad you had been vaccinated. Give one of them chicken pox and they'll change their tune real quick.

Twins game tonight. Prince night. Cheap seats. Should be cool.

Debating whether to go for a ride. Think I may have waited too long (again) looks/feels like rain and stuff is starting to show on the radar now. Damn my procrastination anyway. Just cleaned the bike from last messy ride in rain, not doing that again if I can help it.

Of course I could go work out and exercise those old man guns.
