Burton

Did I hear the announcer say yesterday that Burton can't jump over a can of tuna?

If so that's an indication of a problem that some schmuck tv guy is watching his game and thinking the guy can't get above the rim when we know he can like few others. In Burton's best games there's no doubt he's an above the rim player.

Naz and Burton are both really inconsistent players offensively game to game. Both have the ability to go off against any opponent and both have shown that they can lay an egg on any given night. There bad games can be fatal because they don't know when to dial it back. It is key that CSP figures out a way to minimize the bad nights. If that means one or the other sitting for large stretches and giving more minutes to Babb or Jackson, than they need to accept that. When Naz or Burton are rolling, we need to ride their hot hand.

Yeah, I think Prohm is just going to have to coach his ass off this season, and by "coaching," I mean mainly in-game strategizing. He's got 8-9 guys who can play, but in general are mostly all inconsistent and/or having obvious limitations. "riding hot hands" is going to need to be part of the formula, but also not sticking with 1-9 shooting nights with guys just because they're Seniors has got to be part of the decision making.

Please give me the case to start Babb over Thomas.......be entertaining to hear...

I'm not making the case, but if you look at their stats per minute it's not a slam dunk who is producing more. They should both be heavy rotation guys regardless of who starts. They're the two guards most likely to get a rebound on a team of guards that all need to rebound. (unless you count Burton as a guard)

Wonder if he is hurt. He seems to have lost three inches on his jump. Missing dunks and bunnies may because he is not quite right.

Yes, he said it.

He's missing bunnies because at the rim he's giving up 6" to the guy defending him half the time. In his mind I'm sure it's "get this off quick so it doesn't get swatted." Well, hurrying a high percentage shot isn't going to help the percentage of them he makes.

Yep, and you would think we'd understand that after watching Ejim. We've been relatively spoiled watching our undersized team finish at the rim relatively well. It's not complicated- there are downsides to being small.

We only put him in one/two situation/s yesterday where I was like this is it he's perfect for this type of game, literally no team could match up with him in the conference. It was an off the screen mid range post up. Yet we probably did that maybe twice, he's fine I think the coaches are still learning how to use him, that and he just needs to be a monster and rip the rim off. Im totally fine with him never taking a long range contested 2 the rest of this season though.

I think maybe the consistency, or lack thereof, is both metal and coaching matchups combined with rotations. We saw a nice rotation that gave us victory over Texas Tech. I would like to see Young at the post with Burton and Babb wings. Put Monte and Naz at front to see what happens. Just switch up player combos a little bit. Player chemistry is everything.

burton has been an enigma his entire career. high school, prep school, back to high school, marquette, and now us.

you see a kid with those kind of physical gifts and skill and it makes your head hurt figuring out how he can be so ineffective.

Yep, at this point in Burton's career he isn't going to develop a mean streak or anything like that. He is what he is, which is very talented player without a position who takes bad shots. Sometimes those shots are going to fall and he'll look great but often they won't and his game will look much more average.

I tend to like Burton, but seem a little confused by him. For instance, he often seems to do little things that are unnecessary and a bit risky, such as just flipping passes while coming up court without looking at the recipient. I would like to see him just make the most simple and most safe passes. Also, he sometimes seems to be "outside" the offensive set, just waiting for something to happen for which he can react. He never seems to be quite "in" the play.

Bottom line, he seems like a great athlete who is hard to coach. He is best in streaks linked to aggressive rebounding and defense. I would limit his minutes and tell him to play with reckless abandon when he is in there. And then let him play until he fouls out.

Last night, it looked like Prohm was going to him at the beginning of the second half until he got his third foul.

Then, Solomon Young came in and played solidly for the rest of the game. I think Young is playing his way into Burton's minutes.

Burton is the kind of player that has the athleticism and body for the NBA. He just isn't 100% consistent. I wouldn't be surprised in a few years seeing him playing a good amount of minutes at the next level.

Inconsistent players don't make NBA rosters. Inconsistent players with talent dominate every college basketball team. NBA teams and coaches want players they can count on coming off the bench. Explains why Georges got drafted and he isn't the most physically gifted.

Burton will be 23 at the end of January. . The lightbulb isn

I would point at BDJ. He had games where he didn't do anything at ISU. He was starting and getting points for New Orleans.
