It's a good thing Burton had a bad game. If he had a good one and Naz wasn't forced to step up by driving into the paint, this thread might have been named Naz.

For a talented player I absolutely hate his off balance, quasi fade away off his left foot, 12' jumper.
That shot is short almost all of the time.
Monte has been doing a lot of forearm shivers into a 15-18' fade away too.

Burton has a decent shot from the outside. It looks a little weird when he gets ready to shot, but he gets a nice jump and has a quick release. He has made enough of them for me to be okay with him taking them. I want Prohm to send him in for 10 minutes of doing whatever he can each week, maybe more if he is really on.
BDJ is the 1% exception. Plus he had the length that NBA teams love for guards. But then again his behavior and decisionmaking in the end showed why he struggled at ISU and transfered from 2 schools.

This. I tend to think Burton isn't really a basketball player. He is a gifted athlete attempting to play basketball.
Burton is a good player. He just settles for bad shots way too often. I know he's missed a lot of bunnies, but that's still the best thing for him to do. 3 likely things will happen: 1. He makes a shot 2. He gets fouled 3. He misses the shot. 2/3 of those are good, so play those odds
He should be getting to the foul line a heck of a lot more than he has so far.
He had great production off of the bench last year. He's one of those guys that is a sneaky producer. He gets 10 points and it's like "big deal" but then you realize he only played 12 minutes.

For him to be successful you need to play him at the guard, but then have him post up. No other guard in the Big 12 could handle him if he posted them up. No way.

I actually don't think Burton's post up game is that good. He is best when he is facing the basket and can drive for a layup or pull up for a mid range jumper. I think we are being too hard on Burton. He has shown flashes, but to this point he has been a role player and now we expect him to be the next Georges Niang.
Burton is best when he is guarded by a less athletic big. When he is guarded by a athletic defensive minded guy who is 4-5 inches taller than him, he struggles. When that happens, he needs to play a smaller role.

He'll likely do as he is. Play 50/50 time between 4 or 5 as needed. Good games he'll play more, bad games less. Really goes for all players in that way. I do notice his stats aren't bad. 3rd scorer on our team, best rebounder, and 4th rebounder in the big 12. We'll continue to find a place for him.
Burton tends to play up to what he feels is decent competition IMO. Look at the Gonzaga game. Total beast. But at Iowa, a team that nobody on the ISU roster respected, he goes to sleep and goes through the motions.
TT is also not a big name basketball team, although they are becoming very formidable as we saw. Burton has to treat every opponent like they are Kentucky.

Maybe he hasn't made up his mind on which New Years resolution to go forward with?
I'm not a big fan of us fans being critical of college athletes (and yes, I do it), however, it is rather interesting when they complain about the criticism, but they love getting all the praise and worshiping they receive on the other end of it.
If they have the goal of playing at the next level, they had better get used to the criticism. Kinda goes with the territory unfortunately.

It will be interesting to see what happens on CF when Burton gets 30 points in back-to-back wins for us.
Well it likely will be because Burton red this thread and took the criticism of his game to heart and changed his game to what the posters want.
A lot of people will be taking credit for fixing his play.
